    Cathy Holc-Thompson
    TORCHBEARER
In 1993, after suffering three accidents at work, Cathy was left disabled and was later admitted to hospital where she suffered a pulmonary embolism. Cathy technically died, but was resuscitated. Leaving hospital in a wheelchair, Cathy was determined to walk again and taught herself to do so. Cathy underwent spinal reconstructive surgery and again had to teach herself to walk, however, following another fall she became dependant on the wheelchair. Cathy then established her own charity, Inspirability, and won the BBC South's Community Champions award and also the EU Community Grant fund for helping people back to work. Cathy then underwent another operation and, for the fourth time, had to teach herself to walk. She no longer uses a wheelchair; Cathy is an inspiration!
