How do I use NFC (Near Field Communication) on Galaxy Alpha? (S Beam and Android Beam)

The NFC features on your device let you share content with others using S Beam and Android Beam as well as make payments using the Tap and pay feature.

Before you can use the NFC features you will need to turn NFC on. To do so:

1 From the Home screen touch Apps > Settings > NFC .
2 Touch the slider to turn NFC on.
3 Follow similar steps to the above on the device you want to share the content with (consult the user manual for that device if you're not sure how to do so).

You can quickly access NFC using the shortcuts in the Quick Panel. To access the Quick Panel use two fingers to swipe down from the top of the screen. Touch NFC to turn it on. When the feature is on the icon will appear green.

S Beam

With S Beam turned on you can share files by holding your device close to another NFC-enabled device. S Beam uses Wi-Fi Direct to instantly pair devices and enable sharing.

1 Open the content you want to share. You can share pictures, videos, contacts, webpage links and even links to an application on the Google Play Store. To share a link to an application open the application and follow the steps below.
2 Touch the devices together back to back.
3 On the device you are sending the content from the screen will show Touch to beam. Touch the content on the screen to begin the beaming process.
4 When prompted, separate the two devices and the content will begin to transfer.
5 When the transfer is complete the content will be shown on the receiving device's screen.

Android Beam

Android Beam uses Bluetooth to instantly pair devices and share links, media, contacts and more.

To use Android Beam:

1 From the NFC settings touch Android Beam. Touch the slider to turn Android Beam on.
2 Follow the same steps on the device you want to share content with (consult the user manual for that device if you're not sure how to do so).
3 Open the content you want to share.
4 Hold the devices back to back and touch the screen to transmit the file or information. The information or file that transfers depends on which application you have open on the device.
