I need help with my GPS

Smartphones typically use a combination of Wi-Fi, GPS and mobile networks to determine your location. 



How does my GPS work?


Satellites transmit signals which the GPS receiver on your device picks up and uses to calculate your position. The more signals the receiver picks up and the stronger the signal, the better your GPS receiver will be able to pinpoint your location





Do you have the latest software?


Technical adjustments to the way the satellites interact with your device may sometimes be made -  for example, leap seconds might need to be added and this may result in a time difference with your GPS.

Are you inside?


Signals can be blocked by buildings or large natural structures like hills or mountains. GPS works best when you are outside as your device will be able to pick up multiple signals more easily.


If you are in an area with a poor GPS signal, you can adjust your location settings to suit your needs, as your device uses a combination of Wi-Fi, GPS and mobile networks to determine your location. 


Highly accurate settings will result in your device more accurately pin-pointing your location but will result in increased data usage and use more battery. A lower setting will be less accurate but save battery and mobile data. Click here to find out more about how to find where to optimise location services on your device.



Are you playing Pokémon Go and getting a 'signal not found' error?
