What is a surge protector and does a Samsung LED TV require one?

Last Update date : 2013.12.05

A surge protector (or surge suppressor) is a device designed to protect electrical products from large variations in the incoming power supply (commonly called voltage spikes).

They attempt to regulate the supplied voltage to an electrical device by restricting voltages above a safe threshold.

It is not necessary to use a surge protector for your Samsung TV.

However it is advisable not to leave the TV unused and in standby mode for long periods of time, for example whilst away on vacation.

Disconnect the TV from the mains power, and also disconnect the aerial to prevent possible damage to it from lightning, etc.

Further Note

Recording functions provided on some Samsung televisions will not be available when the TV is disconnected from the mains power.
