SAMSUNG Austin Semiconductor is one of the most advanced semiconductor plants in the United States. We continually invest in maintaining our semiconductor fabrication competitiveness. Our future investments will enable us to manufacturing memory chips using 80 nanometer design rules to produce giga-density devices. SAMSUNG Austin Semiconductor is proud to call Austin, Texas our home. SAMSUNG Austin Semiconductor produces Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) chips - most commonly used in personal computers, workstations and servers. The US-chartered company is owned by SAMSUNG Electronics, the giant $60-billion Korean high tech company, and is the company's only semiconductor manufacturing plant located outside Korea. Since 1997, a year after the company broke ground on its first $1.3 billion fab, SAMSUNG Austin Semiconductor has been providing the latest in DRAM technology to the world.
On April 13, 2006 SAMSUNG Electronics' board of directors announced their decision to invest $220 million in a new 300mm fabrication line in Austin. This new fab will bring greater cost competiveness to our current 200mm plant and will be on our current site. The building phase is well underway, and we look forward to writing this new exciting chapter in our history.
