SAMSUNG Electronics launched the Health and Safety Committee to doubly ensure healthy and safe workplaces across the Company. The health and safety in all manufacturing lines has been improved significantly with the implementation of a safety check prior to operation, as well as a campaign for workplace hygiene. These efforts have been recognized at home and abroad with various awards and certifications for the company.

SAMSUNG Electronics strictly follows the employee health management guidelines prescribed by the International Labor Organization. With the goal of taking care of employee health “from cradle to grave,” “Healthcare 21” has been promoted on a company-wide basis. Healthcare 21 aims at improving the health of employees and their families. At work, the Company has personnel and equipment to regularly check health and working conditions and to provide analysis of the results. Recently, the Company
renovated facilities and fixtures to provide an ergonomic working environment. These efforts have received a citation from an academic organization.

Centering on the Everyone’s Everyday Healthcare Steering Committee, all employees of SAMSUNG Electronics try to accustom themselves to maintaining good health habits both at work and at home. The cigarette quitting campaign in 2002 was incredibly successful. To attract more employees to volunteer, the committee prepared a variety of fun-filled, whole-some plans, including sound drinking habits and food-for thought campaigns.

Gumi plant plans to build healthy working place without smoke by proclaiming the war against smoking. We succeeded in reducing the smoking rate and promote the sustainable no smoking campaign. Major campaigns are that we established and operated the no smoking experience school for 1 night and 2 days by selecting employees who have difficulty in keeping no smoking for strategic no smoking campaign and we moved the smoking section from inside to outside company in order to improve smoking atmosphere and working environment.
Especially, the smoking section was changed into the resting place for employees. In addition, we contribute on the no smoking will enforcement by eliminating the environment for smoking maximum such as partial allowance for smoking before noon, afternoon and lunchtime. Through no smoking promotion activities and campaigns by providing no smoking adjuvant and counseling, the entire departments proclaimed no smoking without intervention. Therefore the smoking rate decreased from 50% by 20%. Since no smoking activity needs continuous education and interest, we challenge to the non smoking rate of 100% through inspiring promotion campaign, no smoking education to bear fruit, successful no smoking system and one family love program with family.

1. minimization of damage through natural disaster consulting

   Since the damage increases due to the concentration and large scale of natural disaster such as large scale damage occurrence by the typhoon ‘Maemi’ in Sep. 2003, we plan to draw objective results and improve through the consulting whether Tangjeong plant and plant facilities affect by natural disaster (flood, typhoon). Now we are reviewing the site research and documents by forming TF with relevant department such as designers of facilities, the construction company and the construction team in order to draw precise results from the current natural disaster consulting (flood, typhoon).

2. zero defect 5140 experience event

   At Tangjeong plant in May 2005, we implement the top 10 hazard factor by facility, safety method experience, exhibition of good cases for facility improvement, sharing of accident case and prohibition method of reoccurrence, experience of wearing effect of protection kit and how to wear and sharing of facility safety PM method. According to the results from Zero Defect experience, the employees who setup the world’s first 7 generation LCD line were offered to experience hazard factor and accomplishment measure.

Gumi plant re-established the safety awareness of employees annually and utilized the play which includes the in company play family, ‘Gonggan‘ in order to foster the safety culture in the plant and 「Dreaming the safe world」was played again in 2005. The major contents are about the course that one emerged from insensibility of safety due to employees’ low safety awareness and accordingly occurred accident cases and made up of themes that make people feel about the importance of safety and happiness about humans, also many colleagues watched and showed passionate interest and the play had been an opportunity to raise the awareness of safety by employees.
