Samsung Corning Precision Glass is opening the world of advanced digital technology in Korea by producing glass substrates that are a critical part of TFT-LCDs.
Established as a joint venture between leading companies Samsung and Corning, Samsung Corning Precision Glass started out in Gumi, North Kyungsang Province. The company uses a technology developed by Corning and further fine-tuned under the cooperation both Corning and Samsung Corning Precision Glass as advanced fusion technology.
Mastery in this technology has made it possible for the company to aptly supply glass substrates for Korea's TFT-LCD (Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display) panel makers, helping TFT-LCDs to become the chosen display for notebook computers, LCD monitors, LCD TVs and other handheld devices like digital cameras, PDAs and navigators.
Originally located in two regions of Gumi and Cheonan (South Chungcheong Province), Samsung Corning Precision Glass has recently expanded its field of expertise by merging with Samsung Corning, a company with decades of experience in making CRT glass and other display parts and materials.
The merger provided Samsung Corning Precision Glass with the opportunity to utilize synergistic effects by combining its existing business of high added value and diversity coming from Samsung Corning.
