From San Jose to Hollywood, ride along on a 550-mile, 12-day bike adventure for kids' charities, all captured on Samsung's SH100 digital camera.
When Scott Birnbaum, Vice-President of New Business Development at Samsung Semiconductor Inc., and his son Jeffrey, a med student and avid biker, decided to ride 550 miles from San Jose to Hollywood, they knew they were in for a tough challenge, but for the worthiest of causes.

Their 12-day "Gears for Giving" trek would raise money for charities dedicated to helping kids in need, including The Boomer Esiason Foundation, Dan Marino Foundation, Jimmie Johnson Foundation and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®. The pair wanted to be able to share their adventure while it was happening, so they packed the SH100 14 Megapixel WiFi Digital Camera along with their camping gear and hit the road.
Mapped out to hit scenic points from San Jose to Los Angeles, including Santa Cruz, Monterrey, Big Sur and Santa Barbara, the ride got off to a soggy start with a torrential downpour on the first day and treacherous, mud-slicked roads through the Santa Cruz Mountains. Fortunately, the weather soon improved, and the spectacular natural beauty of the California coast began to emerge.

All along the way, Scott and Jeffrey captured the sights with the Samsung SH100 digital camera, and shared their memories in real time with friends, family and co-workers. Thanks to the SH100's built-in WiFi, the duo was able to email photos and videos directly from the camera, upload them to Facebook, and even preview them on the Galaxy S smartphone, equipped with SmartView technology.

The roadside scenery included stunning fields of summer flowers, breathtaking ocean cliffs and a beach full of sunbathing elephant seals:

Besides the dazzling landscape, Scott and Jeffrey also encountered great people on the road, from Norwegian husband-and-wife bikers who stopped to pose for a picture, to helpful fellow campers, to Malibu restaurant owners who picked up the tab for lunch. Wherever they rode, they met big-hearted people who provided smiles and inspiration, and the SH100 made it easy to save those memorable moments. With SmartAuto technology and vivid 3" touchscreen functionality, the SH100 captures professional-quality still images and HD video, and is as simple to operate as a touchscreen smartphone.

Scott and Jeffrey completed their charity ride in 12 days, going from the redwood forests of the northern coast all the way to legendary Grauman's Chinese Theater in the heart of Hollywood. Back at home, Scott wrote, "It’s a wonderful feeling to know that our bike ride has been able to help kids and families in need," and also related, "It’s hard for me to take what has become almost a permanent smile off my face knowing that we conquered our 550-mile Gears for Giving challenge. The memories that we built along the way will last long after life returns to 'normal.'"
Thanks to Scott and Jeffrey's determination—and the SH100 digital camera—this father-and-son team's unforgettable memories are theirs to save, share, and re-live...until the next adventure!
