  • Published: December 3, 2012

Holidays are a great time for making videos, and a video camera makes for a welcome and affordable gift. Whether they’re filming kids on Christmas morning, or an impromptu snowball fight, owners of Samsung’s W300 Pocket Camcorder will always capture the moment perfectly.

C apturing great video means always being prepared―and putting yourself in the thick of whatever action is going on. You may not be so eager to do that with a pricy still camera or cell phone. What if you drop it in a puddle or it takes a snowball head on? Here’s the easy solution: Samsung’s W300 Pocket Camcorder. Here are some of the camcorder’s key features.

  • Ultra-Portable, It Goes Where You Go. At 2.3 inches by 4.4 inches and well under an inch thick, the W300 isn’t much bulkier than a cell phone. Its 5-ounce weight means you can easily stow it in a back pocket, a purse or a backpack, so it’s always within reach when the perfect video moment arises.
  • Immune to the Elements. No worries about ruggedness here. The W300 is waterproof to 16.4 feet, shockproof against drops from up to 6.5 feet, and dust resistant. Whether your adventures take you to the top of the ski slopes or a dark and dusty attic, you’re ready to nab great video.
  • High-Definition Video Quality. With 1080p HD video recording built in, you’ll get the highest quality movies available today.

  • Charge Anywhere Via USB. No need to pack a bulky a/c adapter just so you can recharge the camcorder at the end of the day. The W300 charges via any USB socket.
  • Pause and Restart Recordings. When you stop and restart recording, most camcorders create a new file every time. The result: At the end of the day you could be stuck with 50 or more tiny files that have to be stitched together with editing software on your PC before the video can be shared. The W300 lets you pause recordings on the fly. When you restart, it keeps your original file intact. Stop and start all you want―you end up with a single, easily-manageable file.
  • Edit on Any PC. There’s no need to spend extra cash on a video editing program. The W300 has all the software you need built in. Just plug the W300 into any computer and the included Intell-studio software will automatically launch. You can edit, play back and share videos directly from the program.

The Guide

Capture Holiday
Memories Anywhere

W ith the W300 in hand, anyone can capture those holiday moments, whether it’s a clear day or a white Christmas. These tips will help you get the best video every time.

Get Down With Your Subjects

Get Down With Your Subjects. Shooting on Christmas morning often means that dad is on the couch with the camera, while the kids are under the tree in the corner. But there’s a much better way to create memorable videos. When you’re making videos of children, get down to their level―literally―and shoot from their height. This helps to capture what their holiday experience is really like, and the resulting footage feels more personal.

Focus on People

Holiday stories are told in faces, not settings. If you want to get a shot ofthe tree, make sure someone is doing something in front of it. As with still photography, get as close as possible to your subject when you shoot. Can’t get quite close enough? Use the 3x digital zoom on the W300to narrow the distance.

Account for Snowy Scenes

Brightly lit snow can wreak havoc on a camera’s optics. You can take a snow-covered background into account on the W300 by turning on the Back Light function, which will keep your subject from appearing dark and shadowy. Find this option under the Display menu.

Pause Often

There’s no reason to capture every last second of the holiday. You’ll end up with hours and hours of footage that will be too much trouble to edit and too boring to watch. Instead, record only truly worthwhile scenes and experience the rest of the holiday with your own two eyes. In the end, your holiday video should be no longer than 10 to 15 minutes, or even shorter. The W300’s Pause feature described above makes this a snap.
