Samsung Galaxy Tab™ 10.1 Tips & Tricks

  • Published: June 27, 2011

Designed to make your mobile life better, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 comes with the power and speed of Android™ 3.1, Honeycomb, providing access to thousands of apps and delivering an immersive, lightning-fast web-browsing experience. Read on to find out how you can get the most out of your Galaxy Tab 10.1.

1.) Viewing Recently Used Apps

To quickly view recently used apps, touch the third icon in the lower left corner of the screen. This function displays thumbnails of apps that have been recently opened. To navigate to one of these apps, touch its thumbnail.

2.) Using the Action Bar

The Action Bar—which can be accessed by touching the Plus Sign icon at the top right of the screen—is the key to contextual, changing menus that are controlled by each application. When a user touches the Action Bar, they may access options, settings, and actions that are relevant to the current app. For example, from the Home screen, the Action Bar opens widgets, shortcuts, and wallpaper menus. But from the web browser, touching the same Action Bar opens a menu for tabs, find on page, downloads, and settings.

3.) Deleting Home Screen Widgets

To delete a widget from the Home screen, touch and hold the widget and drag it to the top right corner. Drop it over the Remove trash can icon.

4.) Using the Notifications Menu

While previous versions of Android had a window-shade Notifications menu, Android 3.1 incorporates this menu into the bottom right corner of the screen, on the System Bar. To open the Notifications menu, double touch the Time Display to access airplane mode and Wi-Fi® settings, and change lock screen orientation, brightness, notifications and additional settings.

When a new message is received, the system will sound an alert and display a brief pop-up of the message on the lower right corner of the screen. To read the new message without navigating to the messaging app, touch the Message icon on the System Bar and select the message to read.

5.) Incognito Mode

Users can enjoy a private web browsing mode called Incognito. When Incognito Mode is enabled in a browser window, any site viewed in that window won’t be stored in the browser or search history, or leave cookies behind on the device after the window is closed. To turn on Incognito, while in the browser, touch the Action Bar > New Incognito Tab.

6.) Downloading Apps and Books from Google Play™

There are more than 60,000 apps for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 available through the Google Play as well as Books from Google’s new book store. From the Home screen, tap Apps > Google Play. Login or create a Google account if you have not done so already. You can search for new Apps under the Featured Tablet Apps, Top Free Apps or Best Selling Apps. You can also search for Apps by Category on the right hand side of the screen. You may also search for new apps by selecting Search Market at the top of the screen.

You can browse for books under the Books tab on the top left hand of the screen. Search for New, Top Rated or Best Selling books or search by category on the right hand of the screen.

7.) Typing Special Characters

The new keyboard makes it easy to insert accented letters into messages and emails. While using the keyboard, long press a letter key to show the special accented characters available for that letter. Without lifting from the keyboard, the user can slide their finger onto the appropriate character. Release the key to input the accented letter

8.) Default Screen Orientation

Unlike other tablet devices, the default screen orientation for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is landscape rather than portrait. The wide screen allows spacious display of the interface, menus, applications, and media.

9.) Customizing the Home Screen

Users can organize widgets and shortcuts on any of the five areas on the scrolling Home screens. To move a widget or shortcut from one screen to another, touch and hold the widget until it releases from the Home screen grid, and then drag it toward the edge of the screen into the frame of the next Home screen. The same long press (touch and hold) gesture can be used to move widgets and shortcuts around on the same Home screen.

10.) Enhance Your Tab Experience with Accessories

Samsung has many accessory options to keep you connected and maintain your Galaxy Tab 10.1’s beautiful exterior. Explore the Samsung Marketplace online to find an HDTV adapter, USB and SD connection kit, keyboard dock, cover and more to help you get the most out of your Galaxy Tab 10.1.
