Samsung continues its support of the U.S. Paralympic Team as a presenting sponsor of the 2012 UCI Para-Cycling Track World Championships in Los Angeles.
Since its formation in 2001, U.S. Paralympics has made a difference in the lives of thousands of Americans, challenging and inspiring physically disabled athletes to achieve their dreams. As a Worldwide Paralympic Partner since 2006, Samsung has continually shown their support for U.S. Paralympics' mission to inspire excellence and promote fitness, and has raised worldwide awareness of the triumphs of Paralympic athletes. This year, Samsung is proud to serve as the presenting sponsor of the 2012 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships, to be held February 9–12 in Los Angeles.
"It's wonderful to see Samsung once again demonstrate their commitment for the Olympic and Paralympic movements by signing on to sponsor the 2012 World Championships," said U.S. Olympic Committee Chief of Paralympics, Charlie Huebner. "I have no doubt the Los Angeles area will embrace this competition and support all of the athletes as they work toward the 2012 Paralympic Games in London."
Welcoming more than 200 athletes from 30 countries, the competition serves as the final qualifying event for U.S. athletes to be nominated to the 2012 U.S. Paralympic Cycling Team that will compete at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London. Among the U.S. athletes expected to compete at this year's World Championships in Los Angeles are 2011 Paralympic champions Allison Jones (Gold medalist), Greta Niemanas (Silver medalist) and Jennifer Schuble (double Bronze medalist).
This year's competition is especially significant for U.S. athletes because it marks the first time since 1998, and just the second time ever, that the UCI Para-Cycling Track World Championships will be held in the United States. Spanning four days in February, events will take place at the Home Depot Center Velodrome in Carson, California, the first and only permanent indoor track of international standard in North America, and a designated Official U.S. Olympic Training Site. With a seating capacity of 2,450, this state-of-the-art facility offers thousands of fans the chance to cheer Team USA as they compete to represent America in the London games.
"We are proud to be partnering with the USOC to host the 2012 UCI Para-Cycling Track World Championships," says David Steel, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electonics North America, adding, "Samsung is committed to bringing the inspiration and excitement of Paralympic sport to a wider audience around the world."
If you live in or are visiting the L.A. area, come join us in supporting some of the world's top Paralympic athletes. The event is open to the public and features four action-packed days of para-cycling races. You'll see more than 200 athletes from over 30 countries competing in more than 50 races, including:
In addition, DJs from local radio stations, including KOST 103.5, KIIS 102.7 and KYSR 98.7, will be on site from 2 p.m.–4 p.m. each day cheering on Team USA and giving out prizes to lucky spectators.
