Technology to Start the New Year Right

  • Published: December 21, 2012

How many times have you made a New Year’s resolution to get fit, get organized, or learn something new, only to break it within weeks? At least a couple times? Today’s consumer technology offers ways to boost your willpower and make it a bit easier to keep those resolutions.

Resolution 1: Stay Organized

Whether it’s a room full of clutter or a desk stacked high with dusty paperwork, having a disorganized home or office can decrease productivity and add stress to your life. Clutter is also an eyesore that sends the wrong message to visitors and clients. That’s easy to acknowledge, but getting started on a project like that can seem overwhelming.

Resolution 1

The Tech Solution: A New Notebook
One key to organizing your life is using your laptop the smart way. With a Samsung notebook and Windows 8®, organization is easy. Emails and files are automatically indexed to make them searchable, so there’s no need to print out documents on a regular basis. Got docs in paper form? Convert them to digital form with a scanner like the one included in a Samsung SCX series multifunction printer and get rid of the paper for good. Once it becomes a habit, you’ll have no trouble sticking to the program.

Resolution 2: Get in Shape

One of the most popular—and frequently broken—New Year’s Resolutions involves eating right, exercising, and avoiding the excesses of the previous year. But gym memberships are expensive and exercising outside in the winter means fighting some nasty weather.

Resolution 2

The Tech Solution: A Smart TV
Today’s televisions are built for more than just watching your favorite programs. With a Samsung Smart TV you can play games and read the news, but also plan your workout and track your results. Apps available through Samsung’s Smart TVs include Fitness VOD, which provides dozens of exercise videos based on the type of workout you want, and Check Body, which takes basic data about your age, height, and weight and recommends a daily caloric intake to help you plan a sensible diet. The Smart TV can even help to keep you on track with reminders to stick to your workout schedule.*

Resolution 3: Spend More Time with Family and Friends

Our busy lives are filled with entertainment and diversion, but that often comes at the expense of interacting with friends and family. Technology doesn’t have to take you away from loved ones. Used the right way, it can be an amazing way to connect.

Resolution 3

The Tech Solution: A Smartphone
Even if you’re away from home, connecting with friends and family is as easy as tapping the screen on a Samsung smartphone like the Galaxy S® III or Galaxy Note® II. Use social networking apps like Twitter and Facebook to keep tabs on what your friends are doing, send a text message to let them know you’re thinking of them, and, of course, make phone calls so you can hear each other’s voices...or see each other live via video chat.

Resolution 4: Learn Something New

Picking up a new skill used to mean getting down to serious study with a mountain of textbooks, or returning to school for formal instruction. Who has the time?

Resolution 4

The Tech Solution: A Tablet
In schools across the country, textbooks are being replaced by tablets. These are light, portable devices that can access virtually limitless amounts of knowledge. Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 2 tablets are ideal e-book readers, with the Google Play™ Books app giving you access to millions of electronic books. A variety of other e-learning apps abound, letting you pick up a new language or help teach your child to read. Having access to your educational apps 24/7 means you’ll be less likely to drop the program.

Resolution 5: Have More Fun

Resolutions don’t have to be all work and no play. If 2012 saw your nose jammed against the grindstone, make 2013 the year where you have a little more fun—and unleash your creativity.

Resolution 5

The Tech Solution: A Tablet That’s Also a Canvas
Fun means different things to different people, but Samsung’s Galaxy Note® 10.1 is a device that anyone can use as a mobile entertainment powerhouse. The Galaxy Note 10.1 runs all the standard Android™ apps—including thousands of games and other diversions—but the included S Pen™ takes things a step further, letting you write notes and draw freestyle with a pressure-sensitive pen with far more accuracy than you can get with a fingertip. You’ll be amazed at what you can create.
