The Wonder of Samsung Smart TVs

  • Published: March 9, 2011

Discover a new world of web-connected TV entertainment with Samsung Smart TV. Samsung Smart TVs allow you to easily search for movies, TV shows, browse the web, explore Samsung apps, chat with friends and find many other types of new interactive TV content.

Smart Hub

Smart Hub is the interface to all of Samsung’s Smart TV features. From the Smart Hub you can easily access the Search All feature, see movie and app recommendations, open the Web Browser or launch all the apps you have downloaded to your TV.

Web Browser

Surf the net on your TV. A dedicated web browser, optimized for use with your Samsung Smart TV, allows you to expand your TV entertainment experience. Search, watch online videos, read news, network – it’s up to you.

Search All

Search All brings you easy ways to locate shows you want to watch – even while you’re viewing live TV – and helps find related content on the web or other DLNA connected devices.

Your Video (Recommendation Engine)

Your Video recommends movies and TV shows that reflect your individual tastes. Based on ratings and previous viewing history, Your Video serves up videos that are right for you.

Samsung Apps Overview

Samsung Apps is a growing collection of premium web-connected apps specifically built for your TV that connects you to your favorite digital content such as movies from Netflix or Blockbuster, TV shows from Hulu Plus, videos from YouTube, Next Level sports information from ESPN, music from Pandora, and social updates from Facebook or Twitter.

Samsung Movie and Music Apps

Movie apps like Vudu and Netflix take “on demand” content to a whole new level. These apps let you download and or stream content in real-time from movie and TV libraries with thousands of options. Miss your favorite Thursday night TV show? With Hulu Plus™ you can watch recently aired TV shows from networks like ABC, Fox, and NBC—on your own time. And, music lovers can appreciate streaming music on their TVs as well as personalize their own TV radio “station” with the app from Pandora.

Samsung Gaming, Social Networking and News Apps

Let your TV screen double as a virtual playground for social networking or gaming. Samsung’s suite of TV apps also include popular social networking apps like Facebook and Twitter. You can enjoy gaming apps like Texas Hold’em and QuizzMaster. Or download popular entertainment and useful informational apps like AccuWeather, USA Today or Google Maps.

Connect Your TV to the Internet

To start using the Samsung Apps platform on your Samsung TV you must first connect your TV to the internet, which is an easier process than it may sound. Some Samsung TVs have built-in wifi and other TVs require a wireless adaptor called a Link Stick (sold separately). Both options offer quick and easy connection to your home network. For more information on how to hook up your Samsung TV to the internet, go to www.samsung.com/spstv and search for your model TV.

Please note that available apps may vary by product and model.

  • Ok, here's the deal. I would call a piece of technology smarter, only if it improves the way I use technology. In the case of TVs, the primary use, I myself personally chose, is as a monitor/screen to stream contents of my PC/Laptop/. Right now my laptop is connected to my tv, and streams movies, games, music, etc using it as a huge quality monitor. I gathered information about SmartTVs from known resellers, Googled it for days now, and I couldn't find one feature I would call smart. Example: Smart tvs can connect to internet. So what? My laptop is already connected. And I can stream anything I want from youtube to hulu, or whatever it is I want to stream. Don't need a TV with internet to stream anything. aaand that's it. That's the only features I could find. The remaining features are screening features which have nothing to do with "Smart". 800hz, 3D, etc, cool, but that has nothing to do with smart. So what would I call a TV smart? Here it is: If my TV could stream pc/tablet/phone contents wirlessely, with hdmi quality, if it could be controlled from the pc, or if it could even connect to the phone to stream communications, then I would call that TV smart. Until then, I refuse to buy 3rd, 4th, 292nd party softwares or hardwares to use these basic features. But really, it's lame to keep repeating over and over (specially sellers), that the smart tv can stream youtube. Any smartphone can do it already.

  • No web browser. Won't you make an app that just allows you to browse the web? All the rest of the apps are useless.
