SAMSUNG SDS to Launch IHA (Intelligent Home Automation) Business

New concept of HI (Home Integration) that attaches SI (System Integration) on HA (Home Automation) now appears on the market.

SAMSUNG SDS (CEO Hong-Ki Kim) starts an IHA business that builds information infrastructure, targeting households and providing content services. It also plans to continuously develop total solutions as well as H/W and S/W to realize its vision for the HA business.
As the IT environment is extended and spread from offices to households, the demand of IT (Information Technology) infrastructure that centers on the home environment increases, and SAMSUNG SDS is meeting this need by launching this extended business as one of its new business sectors.

SAMSUNG SDS'' IHA (Intelligent Home Automation) business consists of 3 parts:
▶ The Home Control part that provides remote control of home electronic alliances and lights, ▶ the Home Security part that controls entrances/exits and safety alarms ▶ the Information MMI (Man Machine Interface) part that enables free transmission and searches of Internet content through household TV''s or related computer terminals in every residential space.
Installing a separate set top box as a home server and introducing "blue tooth" type as the home network system, SDS integrates all of a household''s IT infrastructure.

The IHA system enables the use of high-technology Internet TV through the set top box.
Also, based on wireless RF (Radio Frequency) communication, it ensures not only the control of household information appliances through private cellular phones, the Internet and remote control outside of the home, but also frequent entrance/exit and gas valve checks, instituting a home control system environment.
Without any separate editing processes, users are able to employ various content on the Internet through terminals attached to household TV''s and home electronic appliances. The technology used is called CCMS (Contents Conversion Management System), which was co-produced with a venture company last May.

For the IHA business, SAMSUNG SDS also produces:
▶ (Intelligent Home Control), main appliance to control the household environment, ▶ portable IHR (Intelligent Home Remocon) that provides remote control of household appliances, ▶IHM (Intelligent Home Module) that connects IHC and IHB in a wireless network and includes other various H/W appliances, opening its business sales activities, targeting major construction companies that plan to build high technology apartments.

Jae-woong Chung, manager of the IBS business team, said," Recently, the domestic construction market is rebounding as the reconstruction industry springs up, and IMT 2000 is on the verge of commercialization, and the HA market is expected to grow rapidly." He added, "Considering that one-third of Korean households now use a superhigh communications network, HI will accelerate networking of residential space and the daily use of Internet information."
