SAMSUNG Electronics Selected as "Best Handset Supplier" in Brazil

SEOUL, Korea August 1, 2001 Telesp Celular recently assessed all its supplier companies, including handset manufacturers and advertising agencies. Samsung Electronics was chosen the best among the handset suppliers. This honor comes just three years after Samsung Electronics broke into the Brazilian CDMA market and is testimony of the company's CDMA technological expertise.

Brazil is rapidly emerging as the largest market in Latin America. Being selected "excellent business partner" by that nation's leading mobile network operator will strengthen Samsung's marketing effort as well as its reputation among Brazilians as the world's leading CDMA handset maker. Such major players as Motorola, Nokia, and Ericsson are all in the Brazilian market.

This is the first time that Telesp Celular has carried out such a comprehensive assessment of its suppliers, rating each on such categories as delivery and product quality. A total of 20 suppliers were selected for having contributed the most the company's development. Those selected were presented with a certificate of excellence.
Samsung entered the Brazilian market in 1998 and completed a CDMA plant in Manaus the following year and the plant has an annual output of 1.44 million units, which are sold throughout Latin America.

Recently, Samsung Electronics began supplying Telesp with a localized model (SCH-N105) dubbed the Fashion Phone. The unique design is aimed specifically at Latin Americans, and it is available in four passionate colors (red, blue etc.). The phone has been a big hit among Brazilians.

Boosted by its selection as "excellent business partner" by Telesp, Samsung Electronics aims to capture 32% of the Brazilian CDMA handset market this year. Samsung Electronics is the world's leading maker of CDMA mobile phones, and now the company is taking its legendary success of the Anycall brand in Korea to the rest of the globe.
