SAMSUNG Develops Products To Support Microsoft's Windows CE 2.0 Platform

LAS VEGAS, NV, USA - January 11, 1998 - Samsung Electronics Co (SEC) is unveiling a new line of Mobile PC products utilizing the Microsoft Windows CE 2.0 platform, marking the first products developed by Samsung since entering into a strategic alignment with Microsoft Corp. The Samsung products, InfoVehicle AutoPC, InfoGear Palm PC and the SCS-100 SmartPhone, were on display during the Consumer Electronics Show, January 8-11, at the Samsung booth and Microsoft Partner Pavilion.
K.R. Song, President of Samsung Electronics America Inc., commented, "These new mobile information products exemplify Samsung's dedication to future technology. This strategic relationship with Microsoft will only strengthen Samsung's role in the industry."

"We know that consumers will benefit greatly by having the ability to extend the value of their PCs to mobile activities." Said Harel Kodesh, general manager, consumer appliance group at Microsoft. "We are happy that Samsung sees this benefit as well, and has chosen to support and incorporate the Windows CE platform into InfoVehicle AutoPC, InfoGear PalmPC and the SCS-100 SmartPhone."

The Samsung InfoVehicle AutoPC is the company's first information system designed for use inside the automobile. This product features integrated voice recognition software and provides the driver with an ultimate array of on-the-road conveniences including a navigation system and database access, telephone capabilities, transmission of wireless data to the car, and vehicle security. With the help of Samsung's InfoVehicle AutoPC, being stuck in traffic may no longer be such a drag! InfoVehicle AutoPC will be available during the second quarter of 1999, carrying a $900.00 suggested retail price.

Utilizing Windows CE 2.0, Samsung's InfoGear PalmPC provides consumers with the ultimate information organization system that is compact enough to slip into a pocket! Internet, e-mail and fax functions insure that the person on the go is always able to communicate with the home or office from anywhere they might be.

Samsung's development of the SCS-100 SmartPhone perpetuates the company's commitment to mobile applications. SmartPhone is the first CDMA/AMPS dual mode wireless phone to incorporate a palmtop computer. This innovative product offers quick easy data transmission via fax, e-mail and the internet (courtesy of the Microsoft Internet Explorer pocket version). The SCS-100 SmartPhone is also equipped with basic organizational tools such as an electronic calendar, address book, notepad, calculator and personal organizer.
