Samsung SDS (www.sds.samsung.co.kr) and Korea Telecom Freetel (KTF; www.ktf.co.kr) announced on September 10 that they have signed a strategic agreement to jointly tap overseas markets for construction of Korean type wireless data service system.

The two companies agreed to integrate KTF's CDMA platform wireless Internet service technology with Samsung SDS' system integration technology to launch wireless data service system construction service for overseas mobile telecommunications service providers. Their first marketing target would be the South East Asia to open new markets for the third generation CDMA platform wireless Internet data service industry as well as tapping markets in China, the U.S. and Europe.

- In particular, KTF would provide contents development, operational experience and consulting services based on its Magicⓝ wireless portal service, while Samsung SDS would construct the system platform and applications for contents service and management.

This is the first for the country's flagship companies from the mobile telecommunications industry and the SI industry to jointly seek opportunities in overseas market. The two companies said that the significance of the strategic alliance is that it broadens the scope of mobile telecommunications industry's overseas expansion to wireless data service segment, and this joint relationship presents a new business model for the IT export with the integration of mobile telecommunications and SI.

Executive Director of Samsung SDS Yang-Kyu Park said "We have, in effect, added mobile SI operations to our mid- to long-term business portfolio with the joint overseas marketing with KTF, who has the advanced mobile telecommunications technology."

On the other hand, the two companies have agreed to cooperate in domestic and overseas mobile telecommunications businesses such as integration of mobile telecommunications and SI as well as the construction of the mobile data service system in overseas markets.
