SAMSUNG Electronics Sets New Trend for Color Handsets

SEOUL, Korea # Oct. 17, 2001 # Samsung Electronics has announced the unveiling of new cdma2000-1x handsets (models: SCH-X230 and SCH-X250) with an extra-large LCD and the capability to produce a 16-chord ring. The 13-line display allows users to conveniently access diverse contents in color, while transmission speeds of up to 144 kbps make wireless Web surfing a breeze.

The JAVA-enabled handsets can directly download games and other applications, greatly enhancing the practicality and usefulness of the product. The high-definition, 256-color LCD offers brighter color images, while the 16-chord melody capacity allows the user to choose everything from an orchestra piece to animal sounds as a ring. A selection of ring melodies can be downloaded anywhere and anytime from the Internet.

Samsung’s new color-screen wireless handsets apply a color Windows user interface for maximum convenience. Furthermore, user can freely change the way the menu is driven as well as edit the icon images and start menu.

According to Kim Ki-sung, a member of the team that designed the SCH-X230 and SCH-X250, “The soft exterior lines, inspired by traditional Korean motifs, offer the kind of elegance befitting a high-end mobile phone. Moreover, the side band and deep colors reproduced by the LCD bolster the solid, high-class image. Of special note is the new graduated layout of the keys, making the product still easier to use.”

Samsung launched its first color handsets in June and had taken at least 55% of the domestic market by September. The rapidly spreading use of handsets with color LCDs ensures that the Anycall brand will remain Korea’s most popular brand in the cdma2000-1x color handset segment as well.
