SAMSUNG Electronics LCD Monitor Sales Break 2 Million Mark

Global sales of Samsung Electronics LCD monitors topped 2 million units at the end of October 2001. Japanese market watcher Research & Strategy Office reported that Samsung’s sales volume was much higher than the projected annual performance of Japanese monitor makers.
According to the Research & Strategy Office data, NEC had sold 819,000 LCD monitors by the end of the second quarter 2001. Projected sales for the year are 1.87 million units for NEC and 740,000 units for Fujitsu.
Samsung Electronics’ sales for 2001 were 881,000 by the end of the second quarter, giving it the largest share of the world market. Sales through the end of October were also significantly higher that that for the leading Japanese companies.
The global LCD monitor market is surging by 100% or more each year, and Samsung Electronics is gaining a competitive edge by operating production facilities in China, Mexico and the UK. Monthly output totals at least 500,000 units in 2001 and that figure will be expanded to 700,000 units in 2002, when company officials aim to sell 5 million units.
Samsung Electronics is engaged in aggressive LCD monitor marketing activities directed at financial institutions, government bodies and companies in the US, Europe and Japan. Falling LCD monitor prices are making the LCD monitor more affordable to the general consumer as well.
Samsung Electronics exported its first LCD monitors in 1997 and this business has grown quickly for the company, which now holds the top share of the world market. Samsung has also expanded its LCD TV lineup to include models from 15 to 24 inches. A 40” model is scheduled for release in 2002, as Samsung cultivates its LCD business, the cornerstone of flat panel displays.
