SAMSUNG to Honor Olympians With SAMSUNG Style and Innovation Award

Olympians Recognized for Demonstrating Personal Style, Innovative Techniques - (DALLAS, January 30, 2002) ? Samsung today announced a program to recognize Olympic athletes who most visibly demonstrate style and innovation in the practice of their sport.

The Samsung Style & Innovation Award will be presented to athletes participating in the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games based on their distinctive expression of style and substance throughout the 2002 Games. Award winners need not be Olympic medalists, but rather athletes who connect with their fans by demonstrating a passion for their sport and who make unique contributions to the advancement of their field of competition.

Samsung will recognize the Style & Innovation Award winners at a ceremony to hold at the Olympic Rendezvous @ Samsung (OR@S), a major attraction in the Salt Lake Olympic Square that showcases Samsung's expertise in digital wireless telecommunications equipment and provides fans and athletes with the opportunity to interact with the equipment and technology.

"Samsung's commitment to style and innovation is reflected in the company's award-winning wireless phones," said Peter Skarzynski, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Samsung Telecommunications America(STA)'s wireless terminals division. "Just as the SPH-i300, SPH-A400 and SCH-T300 have received high honors for their design and innovative technology, Samsung is proud to recognize Olympians who exhibit these same qualities in their approach to their sport."
Samsung Style & Innovations Award winners will be selected by Samsung officials, as well as by Olympic hopefuls participating in the Community Olympic Development Program (CODP).
The CODP, a program of the United States Olympic Committee, helps develop the next generation of U.S. Olympians by providing young, promising athletes with advanced-level coaching and quality programs. Through its 1999-2002 sponsorship of the CODP, Samsung has contributed more than $500,000 in funding, apparel and products and services to the program.
