SAMSUNG Continues Its Support for Crufts Dog Show and Animal Welfare

Samsung Continues its Support for Crufts Dog Show and Animal WelfareLONDON, UK - March 2, 1998 - Samsung's exceptional ongoing commitment to the animal welfare will be highlighted at 1998 Crufts Dog Show, the sixth consecutive Crufts to be supported by the Korean multinational. All the televisual and electronic systems for the world's greatest dog show are again being provided by Samsung, who will be taking a larger stand this year to provide visitors with interactive ways of finding out about the company's contribution to the society through love of animals. Samsung runs, and entirely funds, Samsung Guide Dog for the Blind, the only of its kind in Korea, where growing number of dogs are trained every year. The company works with the Royal New Zealand Foundation for the Blind Guide Dog School to ensure that its trainers are certified to the highest international standards.
The Pets as Therapy programme of Samsung Canine Center for Companionship is also a first for Korea and arranges dog visits to children's homes and other institutions. In September 1998 at the International Association of Human Animal Interaction Organization (IAHAIO) Conference, Samsung will announce the results of its academic research into the benefits of pet handling and human-animal interaction in Korea. The study has been carried out in conjunction with the Social Welfare Department of Won Kwang University.

The company is also active in running education programmes about dogs and their welfare for the Korean public and, in June 1997, its positive work was featured in BBC's "Lifeline" documentary. Samsung has also received the Lesley Scott-Ordish Award from leading UK charity, PRO Dogs, for its outstanding services for the benefit of dogs.

Samsung Search and Rescue Dog Centre continues to develop its programme with the support of the UK's West Midlands Police and the Search and Rescue Dog Association's (SARDA's) Lake District Mountain Rescue Team. The company's first two qualified German Shepherd search and rescue dogs, Gus and Zeus, became Korea's best-known animals by successfully carrying out their first live rescue in 1997, becoming very famous from extensive coverage in the country's leading television stations and newspapers. All these activities, and more, will be highlighted at Crufts 1998, where Samsung's stand will reflect the company's pioneering work with dogs via a new web page (http://www.samsung.com), accessed by computers on the stand. For exhibitors at Crufts, the Samsung photographer will be in attendance at the stand to take photographs of them and their dogs, giving a free framed memento of the 1998 Show - a facility that has become an increasingly popular feature of Samsung's stand with exhibitors. The Samsung Group, a leading electronics, engineering and chemical manufacturer and financial services company, employs approximately 260,000 people worldwide and had 1996 revenues of US$92.7 billion. Samsung regards social leadership as an important responsibility. In addition to our goal of becoming one of the world's leading companies by creating superior products and services, our mission is to become a major contributor to a better global society in the 21st Century.
