SAMSUNG Signs Agreement to Continue Support of Olympic Games

Beijing, China, October 23, 2002 - Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. announced today that the company has renewed the worldwide Olympic sponsorship with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to be the Official Wireless Communications Equipment Partner for the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games and Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

Mr. Gerhard Heiberg, Chairman of IOC Marketing Commission, Mr. Liu Jingmin, Executive Vice-President of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad, Mr. Bruno Rambaudi, Vice President of the Torino Organizing Committee of the 20th Olympic Winter Games and Mr. Jong Yong Yun, Vice Chairman and CEO of Samsung Electronics attended the signing ceremony today in Beijing.

Mr. Liu Qi, President of the Beijing Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games (BOCOG), and Mayor of Beijing met with Mr. Jong Yong Yun today. Mr. Liu congratulated Samsung Electronics to continue to be the member of TOP and expressed his appreciation for Samsung's contribution to China's sports cause.

According to the agreement, Samsung will provide wireless communications equipment together with financial and technical support at the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games and Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The wireless communications equipment is crucial for the smooth running of the Games by keeping officials, media, staff and volunteers in close contact. The wireless equipment will also help athletes, officials and fans share the exciting moments of the Olympic Games.

For the sponsorship program, Samsung's existing product category has been extended to include Personal Digital Assistants (PDA), handheld computing device with wireless communications capability, and Wi-Fi or wireless fidelity functionality. These additions will be an important aspect of the next generation of wireless communications equipment, providing both voice and data communication with faster and easier access to useful information via wireless Internet.
