SAMSUNG Named 1998 ENERGY STAR Monitor Partner of the Year

RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J., USA - March 24, 1998 - Samsung Electronics America Inc. (SEA), a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Company (SEC), the world's largest manufacturer of monitors, has been named the 1998 ENERGY STAR "Monitor Partner of The Year" by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The prestigious award, which is given out annually as part of the EPA's Atmospheric Pollution Prevention Division (APPD) Smart Business Opportunities Forum, honors companies that exemplify outstanding environmental leadership. This is the third consecutive year Samsung has won the award.
"As the world leader in monitor manufacturing, Samsung dedicates itself to being a leader when it comes to environmental issues," explained Chris Stocker, Samsung's Director of Marketing for Display Products. "That is why all of our monitors are ENERGY STAR compliant and we take such an active role in promoting the benefits of energy-efficient products to our customers and employees. It's an honor for Samsung to have these efforts recognized by the EPA."

Samsung was chosen "Monitor Partner of the Year" over other top competing manufacturers and remains a recognized member of the ENERGY STAR Office Equipment 100% Club (1994-1997). ENERGY STAR "Partners of The Year" are selected based on their contributions to the success of the Office Equipment Program. Launched in 1993, the ENERGY STAR Office Equipment program promotes partnership agreements with industry-leading manufacturers to incorporate energy-efficient technology, such as power management features, in their products. ENERGY STAR products help reduce pollution by cutting excess energy consumption and save money by lowering electric bills. These industry-leading companies create innovative communications and public education programs on energy efficiency to introducing an entire ENERGY STAR product line.

Samsung upholds the EPA's criteria as an ENERGY STAR Monitor partner with its energy-efficient SyncMaster monitor line. All SyncMaster monitors incorporate a four stage Power Management System (On, Stand-By, Suspend, Off) that enables the monitor to power down to "sleep" mode. Samsung's "p" Series monitors also feature TCO '95. Samsung's Power Management features reduce energy consumption, pollution, and electric bills and save consumers money.

Samsung is dedicated to stimulating the market demand for ENERGY STAR compliant monitors. The company's contributions for 1998 include incorporating the ENERGY STAR feature in all of its monitors sold throughout the world and educating consumers by using the ENERGY STAR logo in marketing and training materials, trade and consumer advertisements, product packaging, collateral materials, user's manuals and trade show booths.

Samsung was presented with the award at the EPA's 1998 APPD Annual Forum event, which took place in Washington, D.C. on March 24, 1998.
