SAMSUNG Ready to Meet Industry Demand with Intel Validation for DDR400

SAN JOSE, Calif - February 19, 2003 - Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world’s leading supplier of advanced memory technology, today announced that its DDR400 has passed Intel system validation for Springdale and is 100% compliant with the Intel specification. Samsung’s high-speed Double Data Rate DDR400 SDRAM is in volume production, achieving high yields and cost efficiencies, to ensure supply of the advanced memory chips required to optimize Intel’s Springdale chipset.
“We are pleased that Samsung’s DDR400 has received Intel system validation on its new Springdale chipset,” said Tom Quinn, Samsung’s San Jose-based vice president of marketing. “Samsung has long been the driving force behind DDR400; we were the first to announce the device, and the first to ship in volume. Today, we are confident that Samsung has the capacity in place to meet the fast growing demand for DDR400 expected from the introduction of Intel’s Springdale,” Quinn noted.
"We will see DDR 400 support the highest performance Pentium® 4 processor desktop and workstation systems in 2003. We are pleased that Samsung will support our roadmap by offering Intel compliant DDR 400 memory for these applications," said Pete MacWilliams, Intel Senior Fellow.
Samsung’s DDR400 was first developed in March 2002. Through close partnerships with leading chipset makers and active participation in standardization efforts, Samsung has dedicated its expertise in the memory business to introduce the next generation memory technology.
The introduction of Intel’s Springdale chipset supports Samsung’s DDR400 strategy, which is designed to optimize the Springdale 800MHz front side bus architecture. Samsung’s Intel system endorsed DDR400 line-up includes 256Mbit components and a variety of 512MByte(MB) and 256MB density modules. Manufactured using a 0.13-micron process, Samsung’s DDR400 SDRAM features 200MHz operation with 400Mbps data transmission speeds. The DDR400 launched volume production in Q4 2002.
