SAMSUNG and Station X Studios Sign Strategic Agreement; Studio to Exclusively Use New Line of Alpha-Based CPUs

LAS VEGAS, USA - April 6, 1998 - Samsung Semiconductor Inc (SSI) and Santa Monica, Calif.-based Station X Studios Monday announced a strategic technology and marketing agreement with respect to Samsung's line of Alpha-based CPUs.
Under the agreement, Station X Studios will serve as the principal entertainment industry beta site for Samsung's line of AlphaPowered CPUs, providing benchmark and technical feedback to the multinational conglomerate.

The studio will exclusively use Alpha-based CPUs and motherboards to create photo-real digital visual effects for feature films and television commercials. Under the agreement, Samsung is making a substantial investment by providing Station X with a quantity of leading-edge equipment for use by the Santa Monica studio.

Samsung's Alpha-based CPUs are at the heart of the high-speed NT workstations that are being used more frequently by Hollywood's leading visual-effects studios. The new systems replace the slower and more expensive SGI gear.

"This strategic agreement with Samsung is a natural complement to our existing relationship with Digital Equipment Corp.," commented Station X Chief Executive Officer Grant Boucher. "And it ensures that Station X will have the earliest possible access to succeeding generations of what are the fastest processors on the planet. In our business, more speed translates to lower costs for our clients."

"Based upon the quality of their work and the event-caliber projects they are involved with, we have identified Station X as a visual-effects studio with explosive growth potential in terms of pushing the envelope technologically and artistically," stated Samsung Director Young-Joon Kim.

"We could not think of a better way to showcase the revolutionary power of the Alpha-based processors than to form a strategic alliance with Station X."

Station X Studios (www.stationxstudios.com) specializes in providing 3-D photo-real digital effects for feature films and television commercials.
