SAMSUNG Launches New 3G Wireless System Products Allowing Carriers to Add New Services

NEW ORLEANS and DALLAS, March 17, 2003 - Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung), today announced at the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association's (CTIA) trade show three new wireless systems products for the North American market designed to drive value-added services for CDMA carriers, which result in increased average revenue per user while lowering expenses.
Samsung's proven performance in network hardware, software and handsets underscores the innovation and efficiency of this new line of products, which include the SCBS-400S5 Pico Base Transceiver Station, InfoMobile 3GS and InfoMobile @Cell. The company is showcasing these new products in booth # 4265 at the CTIA show in New Orleans, Monday, March 17 to Wednesday, March 19.

""We work closely with carriers throughout the world to deploy wireless infrastructure that increases revenue with high-speed wireless data,"" said J. Neal Smith, senior director of wireless systems for Samsung Telecommunications America. ""Because of our history of innovation and of pioneering wireless standards, our customers are confident in our understanding of their needs from an infrastructure, consumer and financial perspective.""

Samsung was the world's first equipment manufacturer to launch a CDMA2000 1X system in 2000. In 2001, the company provided its Base Transceiver Stations and Base Station Controllers to help launch Sprint PCS' first 3G deployment, which the carrier continues to expand throughout North America. Samsung followed these milestones in 2002 with the commercial deployment of equipment that supports 1xEV-DO networks across Korea and Japan.

With these new products carriers can offer 3G-enabled services such as multimedia messaging, video on demand, videoconferencing and MP3 downloads to drive average revenue per user.

""Wireless operators need to have the confidence that the new equipment will overlay with their current infrastructure and immediately produce measurable results,"" said Smith. ""That is exactly what Samsung's products offer.""

Samsung offers a complete 3G CDMA Base Station Subsystem, including Base Transceiver Station, Base Station Controller and Base Station Manager.

The company's new products include:

SCBS-400S5 - Samsung Pico Base Transceiver Station (BTS)
Samsung's Pico BTS offers flexibility for wireless operators to meet current call capacity and radio coverage demands while expanding capabilities for future consumer needs as well. The multicarrier Pico BTS is designed specifically for highway and in-building applications and supports more than 320 channel elements with a compact, easy-to-install size. By leveraging a high-speed ATM backbone, this product virtually eliminates traffic delays.

InfoMobile 3GS
Samsung's InfoMobile solution integrates wired and wireless technologies allowing users to receive calls from any location as well as access high-speed data services. Incoming calls are automatically routed from the wireline phone to the wireless phone. This eliminates phone tag and increases productivity allowing employees to respond to customer calls regardless of location. InfoMobile offers the convenience of one terminal for both public and private calls, and the system has been deployed at over 60 sites in South Korea such as Daewoo Shipbuilding, Shilla Hotel, Medical Center, KAIST (University) and SKT with significant cost savings and efficiencies.

InfoMobile @Cell
Samsung's InfoMobile @Cell offers secure high-speed wireless data for in-building, campus or Hot Spot areas that seamlessly integrates with the existing infrastructure to ensure accurate billing and authentication. With speeds up to 2.4Mbps, remote radio access units eliminate ""dead"" spots throughout a facility and offers secure service via a dedicated frequency. With uncertainties regarding the security of the Wi-Fi standard, users are assured a private, secure transmission via InfoMobile @Cell.
