SAMSUNG MOBILE EXPLORERS EMBARK ON MISSION TO SHARE THE EXCITEMENT OF THE SINGAPORE 2010 YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES WITH THE REST OF THE WORLD

Singapore, 13 August 2010 – Thirty five Samsung Mobile Explorers (SMEs) from Singapore, Korea and China, aged between 14 to 18 years old, embarked on their roles as mobile reporters at the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (Singapore 2010).

The Samsung Mobile Explorer program is an initiative by Samsung, a Worldwide Partner in the Wireless Communications Equipment category for the Olympic Games and Youth Olympic Games, which aims to work with young and active leaders to connect with other youths by sharing their experiences at Singapore 2010 through its latest mobile technology, combined with social media platforms.

“The SME has been one of the key programmes of the Olympic Games for Samsung. Through this initiative, and as a committed supporter of sports and youth, Samsung hopes to instill the Olympic values of friendship, excellence and respect among the SMEs and with youth around the world. Our Mobile Explorers will not only capture and share the moments, but also provide a youth perspective of the Games by fully using our latest mobile phone technology,” said Mr Gyehyun Kwon, Head of Worldwide Sports Marketing at Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.

For Singapore 2010, Samsung strengthened the educational values of the SME program by targeting the younger generation under the theme of “Leading the Future @ YOG”. Activities will include attending YOG competitions, participating in YOG cultural and educational programs, as well as visits to Singapore’s favourite landmarks and locations.

“The YOG is a great platform to welcome the world to Singapore and the SME program provides us with an invaluable opportunity to be part of the inaugural YOG and learn more about the Games all at home. We are also really excited to meet fellow SMEs from China and Korea and experience their different cultures,” said Lai Si Ying, 17, a Singapore SME.

Hanna Kim from Korea added, “The SME program will be a great way to make new friends, understand different cultures, experience Olympic values, and get connected with people around the world. That is why I am so proud to be a part of this truly rare opportunity.”

“I am honored to be selected as one of the 10 SMEs from China, and I am determined to make this experience a meaningful one not only for myself, but also for my friends and family in China and around the world,” said Jiaying Li, 15, a Chinese SME.
