New Tools for Developers Available Now
Samsung today also unveiled the Software Development Kit (SDK) for Samsung Smart TV, which makes it even easier for developers to build and deploy Smart TV applications. The SDK for Samsung Smart TV offers easy integration and compatibility with 2011 Samsung smart TVs and Blu-ray players. The SDK has a new emulator UI that helps developers create apps efficiently and supports Samsung adaptive streaming and IETF live streaming to facilitate live and on-demand viewing of content in completed apps. In addition, a new Open Convergence Interface feature in the SDK will support integration with HID devices like USB mouses, keyboards or game controllers, and offers developers increased possibilities to create apps that dramatically enhance user experience.

The SDK for Samsung Smart TV also integrates support for Adobe AIR 2.5 technology. With Adobe AIR 2.5, developers will be able to leverage familiar tools to build rich, standalone applications.

To spur further adoption and development, Samsung will make the SDK for Samsung Smart TV available to anyone who wants to develop a TV app. The company has also launched a community feature on its Samsung D Forum developer ecosystem to facilitate continued dialogue and help new apps developers get started.

Built with the developer in mind, Samsung Apps supports common web standards like Javascript, XML and Lua, as well as support for Adobe Flash 10.1. It uses a single SDK for apps that runs across HDTVs, Blu-ray players and Blu-ray Home Theater systems. This eliminates many of the barriers to development by allowing applications to be written once and deployed across several platforms, ultimately enabling more versatile monetization for developers and a consistent, intuitive experience for consumers.
