SAMSUNG Electronics Develops Key Signal Processing ICs for Monitors

SEOUL, Korea - July, 6, 1998 - Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., has completed development of three types of essential ICs used to process signals in monitors. The first type is a video signal processor, which handles incoming red/blue/green signals. The second is deflection signal processor, which controls vertical and horizontal signals of various lengths; adjusts the horizontal and vertical size on the CRT screen; positions the image; and corrects distortions. Finally, the on-screen display IC is responsible for processing the data displayed on the screen with any adjustments are made by the user.

These new devices reflect recent market trends regarding monitor signal processing semiconductors. They are controlled by an IIC bus, which provides outstanding performance while the chip sets can be produced at low cost.
In addition to these new ICs, Samsung Electronics has already been producing microcomputers and power transistors. Therefore, the company is now in a position to offer customers a total solution to their needs.

Samsung Electronics will supply its new signal processing ICs to domestic monitor makers (annual demand of around 30 million) as well as export to Taiwan (with a demand similar in volume to Korea's) and other markets. Samsung Electronics will continue developing new parts and components for monitors and is expected to have key signal processing ICs for LCD monitors ready in the second half of this year.

In Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., there are three main business units:
- Multimedia & Home Appliances
- Semiconductors
- Information & Telecommunications.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a US $13 billion (1997) flagship company of Korean-based the Samsung Group, is a world leader in electronics, with operations in more than 60 countries and 85,000 employees Worldwide.
