Cardiovascular Research Foundation Providing SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab® to 10,000-Plus Attendees at TCT Symposium

SAN FRANCISCO – October 27, 2013Samsung Electronics America Inc., a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, is partnering with the Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF) to provide pre-loaded Samsung Galaxy Tab® 3 8.0 tablets to the more than 10,000 paid attendees of the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) scientific symposium, which kicks off today in San Francisco and runs through November 1. The Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF), a nonprofit organization and sponsor of the annual symposium, is providing the tablets to honor the meeting’s 25th anniversary and theme “Envisioning the Future,” which acknowledges the growing use of tablets, smartphones and other mobile technology in patient care, research and education.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab® 3 8.0 tablet – the latest device from the leading provider of Android tablets – will serve as an integral, interactive part of this year’s attendee experience and will be pre-loaded with information on various aspects of the meeting. Unique content includes the official TCT and TCTMD apps and shortcuts to other medical apps and resources.

With the newly redesigned TCT 2013 app, attendees will be able to:
  • View and search the TCT program
  • Plan their schedule
  • Participate in live session chats
  • Rate sessions for Continuing Medical Education (CME)
  • Communicate with faculty and other attendees
  • Live stream Main Arena presentations
  • View all archived live case transmissions
  • Access abstract, slides and TCT Factoids
  • Navigate the event venue
  • Take notes
  • Share TCT info

  • “We are excited to partner with the CRF on this tablet initiative to help them achieve their long-term digital strategy of innovating and enhancing medical education, making it more interactive, dynamic and informative,” said Todd Bouman, vice president for product marketing at Samsung’s Enterprise Business Division. “This is an opportunity to engage with healthcare providers and physicians who may be looking at adopting tablet technology and to demonstrate how devices like the Galaxy Tab can help to drive mobility, achieve greater efficiency and enhance the patient experience.”

According to a recent Mobile Trends Report by Epocrates, nearly half of all providers who own a tablet use it for electronic health record (EHR) management and other clinical documentation. By 2014, nine in 10 healthcare providers will use smartphones and nearly as many will use tablets.

“Currently attendees at medical meetings tend to be passive recipients of information. We want to radically change the conference experience, with the tablet becoming the interface between the faculty and attendee.” said Dr. Gregg W. Stone, co-director of the TCT symposium. “CRF aims to leverage the latest digital advancements and technologies so that we can optimize the educational experience and enhance learning for all TCT participants, at this meeting and beyond.”
