SAMSUNG Welcomes Olympic Torch 'Home'

7 June 2004, Seoul ? The Olympic Torch Relay today reaches Seoul, home of Samsung, Worldwide Olympic Partner for the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games and Presenting Partner of the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Torch Relay.
Seoul is the fourth city on the first ever truly global Olympic Torch tour, following Sydney, Melbourne and Tokyo. The Olympic Torch will travel on to some other Asian cities and African, American, European cities including all previous host cities of the Olympic Games as well as cities in continents which the Olympic flame has never visited such as Cairo, Cape Town and Rio de Janeiro be fore arriving in Greece on 9 th July.
Samsung, as a Proud Presenter for the Torch Relay, selected its Torchbearers in Seoul including Mr HG Kim who lost his two legs while saving a boy from the subway accident . Mr Kim said, “It is a great honor to be carrying the Torch in my life and I'm very grateful to Samsung giving me the opportunity . I'd like to deliver all the hope to those who have any difficulties and share the Olympic Spirit with them.”
Mr Kim will carry the Olympic Torch with his artificial legs, not on a wheelchair to encourage himself and others to inspire and present the human scale that represents the value of the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Torch Relay. He will be joined a host of athletes, celebrities and local unsung heroes such as Cha Bum (Former soccer player in Germany and present coach of Samsung Blue Wings), Bong-Ju Lee (A silver medallist in marathon at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games), Sang-Woo Kwon (Famous Korean actor) and Ye-Jin Kim (Blind girl who will be carrying the Olympic Torch along with her guide dog provided by Samsung) to deliver the Olympic Spirit to Seoul, the host city of the 1988 Olympic Games.
The tour was started in Sydney on 4 th June by Samsung's Global Athlete Ambassador Cathy Freeman, who was also the last person to run with the flame for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney . Cathy will certainly join Seoul, home of Samsung to share her Olympic experience with all the people in Seoul.
In total, the flame will travel over 78,000km , visiting 27 countries, including Greece, and 34 cities, including Ancient Olympia - embracing communities from all five continents represented by the Olympic rings before arriving in Athens on 13 th August where the lighting of the flame in the Olympic Stadium during the opening ceremony will signal the official start of the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games.
