SAMSUNG Unveils Its Centerpiece of Olympic Marketing Campaign, Olympic Rendezvous @ SAMSUNG

August 11, 2004 (Athens) - President of the ATHENS 2004 Organising Committee, Ms. Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki; Mayor of Athens, Ms. Dora Bakoyianni ; Vice Chairman & CEO, Mr. Jong Yong Yun , Gold medalist and former Olympian , Cathy Freeman ; and Greek Gold hopeful in gymnastics ring , Dimosthenis Tambakos were among many other notable Olympic Families, VIP guests and members of the media in attendance today to launch the opening of the Olympic Rendezvous at Samsung (OR@S).
The 1,064 square meter entertainment complex, located within the Athens Olympic Sports Complex (OAKA), will be a central gathering place and landmark for spectators and athletes during the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games.
Expecting to attract well over 300,000 visitors during the Games , the OR@S will open from 17:00-24:00 for the 13 th of August and daily from 11:00-24:00 starting August 1 4 th until August 29 th . The OR@S will showcase Samsung's latest cutting-edge technology in wireless communications equipment and provide a cool and relaxing retreat for athletes , their families , and spectators .
Vice Chairman & CEO of Samsung, Mr. Jong Yong Yun gave the welcome speech to the first visitors to the OR@S. He said: “For the third consecutive Olympic Games we are proud to present the OR@S - which exemplifies Samsung's dedicated commitment to the Olympic Movement - by appealing to both athletes and spectators.”
Cathy Freeman and Dimosthenis Tambakos responded to his speech as athlete representatives visiting the venue for athletes. Cathy stated: “The OR@S is a center where athletes can relax and spend time with their families and friends. I found it is a fantastic place.” Dimosthenis said: “I'm very proud to be here as an athlete representative and the OR@S is the great place that the athletes and the spectators can share the Olympic experience with each other.”
As one of the centerpieces of Samsung's Worldwide Partnership of the Olympic Games , the OR@S will also feature spectacular live entertainment, athlete appearances, sports memorabilia auctions, and futuristic product displays as part of the unforgettable moments to be shared during the Games.
The OR@S will feature four main themes:
The Athlete Center

The Athlete Center is the “Official Meeting Place for Athletes and Their Families” during the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games. The Center provides a home- away- from-home for visiting athletes and their guests. It offers a friendly , private environment where athletes can relax with friends and family; get away from the Olympic crowds and rigors of competition ; and escape from the Athens summer heat.
The Spectator Cener

The Spectator Center on the ground floor showcases some of Samsung's contributions to the world of wireless communications. Inside, visitors have the opportunity to experience the ‘ present meeting the future ' with the latest wireless communication s equipment and technologies developed by Samsung .
Visitors will be able to see demonstrations of Samsung's unique and innovative information system WOW (Wireless Olympic Works) which allows ATH ENS 2004 officials and organizers to access up-to-the-minute Olympic scores and other data through handheld devices such as mobile phones and Smart (PDA) Phones.
Loop Plaza

Situated immediately outside the OR@S building , this area is dedicated to live entertainment and exhibits. The Loop Plaza will play host to public appearances from Olympians, Samsung's laser shows , National Day celebrations, sports memorabilia auctions, an Olympic Torch Relay exhibit and other live dance, music, acrobatics and street theatre performances.
Athlete Events

Samsung's Athlete Ambassadors will be making a number of appearances at the OR@S. Spectators will be able to interact with their sports heroes, taking part in Q&As, autograph sessions, fun sports challenges or receive tips from the top past and present Olympians.

Event Schedule at OR@S


* National Day : The multicultural festival program where visitors can see a different entertainment showcase each day. Singers, dancers, musicians and major athletes from each country will share their individual cultures and experiences with visitors.

* Right to Play : Non-Government Organisation which committed to improving the disadvantaged children and their communities
