SAMSUNG Donates Nearly $100,000 In Electronics To Steve Young's Forever Young Foundation

San Francisco, CA, October 7, 2004 -- Samsung Electronics, the global sponsor of WCG (World Cyber Games), a youth-centered international gaming festival, today announced that it will donate to charity $200,000 worth of monitors and other gaming electronics used by this year's WCG Grand Final competitors. The world Cyber Games Final is being held at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, October 6-10, 2004 and is bringing together 700 champion gamers from over 60 countries to compete for world titles and prize money.
At the opening ceremony of the World Cyber Games on October 6, legendary San Francisco 49ers quarterback Steve Young announced the donation of nearly $100,000 in Samsung monitors and Samsung flat-panel televisions to Steve Young's Forever Young Foundation. The technology will be used in Forever Young Zones, technology outlets set up in San Jose and San Francisco. The additional Samsung technology will be donated to regional schools and volunteer programs in the San Francisco area for a total donation of over $200,000.

""I'm proud to be part of Samsung's World Cyber Games and want to thank Samsung for their donation to my Forever Young Foundation. I've had many great games in my career but off the field I now feel fortunate to have time to focus my energies on my family, business ventures and the needs of those living in underserved communities. I want to thank Samsung for bringing this wonderful event to the Bay Area. What an exciting vision of our future... the World Cyber Games,"" said Steve Young.

""Samsung and the World Cyber Games are providing much needed hope and a bright future for the world's youth by engaging in charitable activities during the event. This is all part of Samsung's goal of promoting a world of digital technology with a humane touch,"" said Peter Weedfald, Senior Vice President of Strategic Marketing, Samsung Electronics.

Samsung's technology donation to the Forever Young Foundation is the latest chapter in the company's goodwill mission to help children and support education. On September 22, 2004, Samsung launched Hope For Education, a new philanthropy program created to benefit children's education. Hope For Education will give 101 lucky elementary, middle and high schools across the country the chance to win up to $100,000 in much-needed technology equipment via a unique online essay contest (www.hopeforeducation.com). The commitment to contribute to society through good corporate citizenship is deeply ingrained in Samsung's corporate culture. In the U.S., Samsung Electronics began the drive to support young people and education nearly 10 years ago. In 1995, Samsung joined with The American Legion to offer college scholarships to direct descendants of honorably discharged wartime veterans, in recognition of the sacrifices of American servicemen and women during the Korean War. The scholarships are derived from earnings on a $5 million Samsung endowment.

In 2002 Samsung Electronics America further extended its contributions to the community by creating Samsung's Four Seasons of Hope. This philanthropy program is dedicated to supporting community-based foundations and charities, and is led by some of this country's favorite sports legends, including Magic Johnson, Joe Torre, Arnold Palmer and Boomer Esiason. Samsung's Four Seasons of Hope also benefits musician Jon Bon Jovi's four Philadelphia-based charities. Jon Bon Jovi is also the official musician of Samsung's Four Seasons of Hope. Since its inception, Samsung's Four Seasons of Hope has raised over $4 million, as well as national awareness, for these outstanding charities. The success of Samsung's charitable endeavors inspired the company to donate technology to the Forever Young Foundation as a new way to make a difference in the lives of children, families and American society.

Said Peter Weedfald, ""Donation programs will deepen the positive impact of the WCG. Samsung is proud to work with organizations such as the Forever Young Foundation, in order to make a brighter future for children and families everywhere.""
