SAMSUNG Electronics President Kitae Lee named as 'Distinguished Industry Leader' by IEEE

The prestigious Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Communications Society (IEEE) is holding its Global Telecommunications Conference in Dallas November 29-December 3. During this event, the society will announce its decision to confer the Distinguished Industry Leader Award on Samsung Electronics President Kitae Lee.
IEEE Communications Society/Awards Chair Dr. Mike Kincaid says, "IEEE Communications Society Distinguished Industry Leader Award for 2004 has been voted on and unanimously awarded to Mr. Kitae Lee, President & CEO of Telecommunication Network Business, Samsung Electronics” and he explains “President Kitae Lee will receive this award in recognition of contributions and leadership in the development of the mobile communications industry and innovation in mobile communications technology”
The IEEE Distinguished Industry Leader Award is bestowed on just one person each year. The recipient must have been very influential in the development of the global information and communication industry. This influence could be either in leading the spread of new communication and information technology or in achieving milestones in the development of communication systems, handsets or services.
The IEEE presented its first Distinguished Industry Leader Award in 2001. The four recipients prior to President Lee are all at the very top of the global information and communication industry: NTT DoCoMo Chairman Keiji Tachikawa ('01), Cisco Chairman John Chambers ('02), Nokia Chairman Jorma Ollila ('03) and Qualcomm Chairman Erwin Jacobs ('04).
Samsung Electronics President Kitae Lee joins the ranks of a very elite group and is the first Korean to be so honored. President Lee says, “I have devoted my life to developing the communications industry and its technology and firmly believe that new wireless technology will be the nucleus that transforms our lives. I am honored to receive this award, which recognizes my life's work. In the future, I will continue to strive to create the most innovative technologies and to help advance both the information and communications industry as well as people's lives in general.”
The IEEE will formally present the award to President Lee at the International Conference on Communication (ICC), which will be held in Seoul next May.
The IEEE was established in 1984 and now has 360,000 members from academic, corporate and government circles in 176 countries. All members are professionally involved in the electronics or information/communications fields.
The importance of the IEEE continues to grow particularly in the telecommunications industry. It now plays a leading role in establishing next-generation communications technology standards such as 802.16
