SAMSUNG Elevating Torino 2006 Olympic Torch Relay To Global Festival

December 7, 2004 (Rome, Italy) – Today, Samsung was officially announced by TOROC as a Presenting Partner of Torino 2006 Olympic Torch Relay. Samsung, a Presenting Partner of the first-ever truly global Olympic Torch Relay for ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games , will continue its sponsorship of the Torch Relay for Torino 2006, offering people from all over the globe the opportunity to carry the Olympic torch in Italy as part of its efforts as The Olympic Partner (TOP) for the XX Olympic Winter Games to be held in Torino, Italy from February 10 – 26, 2006. Making the announcement at the Torino 2006 Olympic Torch Relay Launch Press Conference organized by TOROC, Samsung is committed to enhance the Olympic Torch Relay to a festival of opportunity and celebration for citizens of the world leading up to the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games.
The Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games is the third to be held in Italy following the Olympic Games of Rome in 1960 and the Olympic Winter Games held in Cortina d'Ampezzo in 1956. The Olympic Torch Relay for Torino will start in Rome on December 8, 2005 and last until February 10, 2006 — crossing all regions and provinces of Italy and covering approximately 11,300 km of the Italian Peninsula with about 10,000 Torchbearers. The Olympic Torch will travel to Palermo for Christmas day celebrations, in Naples for New Year's festivities and in Cortina d'Ampezzo on January 26 for the fiftieth anniversary of the Opening Ceremony of the 1956 Olympic Winter Games. Samsung will closely cooperate with TOROC to share the historical significance of the Torino Olympic Winter Games and the sublime of Italian culture and heritage with the world citizen to bring the whole of Italy and, furthermore, the globe together under the Olympic torch.
During the Torino Olympic Torch Relay, Samsung will have promotional vehicles within the core convoy , install Samsung Showcasing Stands in sponsor villages, and organize the hospitality program for Samsung Torchbearers as part of its Olympic marketing activities. Through various consumer promotions organized by its global networks, Samsung will select ‘Samsung' runners globally and locally to enjoy a once-in-a lifetime experience to carry the flame in Italy in order to encourage participation in the Olympic Games by all. Through diverse events Samsung will encourage participation for public figures such as former athletes and Olympic medallists, actors, musicians and fashion leaders as well as inspirational community leaders, volunteers, and people who have overcome hardships – individuals who represent the Olympic Spirit.

After participating in the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Torch Relay as a Presenting Partner, the corporate favorably of Samsung increased by 7% - compared to a 3% increase after the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. In addition, Samsung has been applauded for its efforts to create an environment of a global festival for the Olympic Torch Relay by offering opportunities to participate to volunteers from over 40 countries. This tradition will continue for the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games.
Also making a return for the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games will be the Olympic Rendezvous at Samsung or “OR@S” - a fun-filled entertainment and relaxation lounge for athletes, their families and spectators and a major part of Samsung's Olympic sponsorship activities since Sydney 2000.
