The SAMSUNG Experience Debuts Nation's First Free "Tech Take-Out"” Program

New York, NY — Call it a 'Gadget Library,' of sorts. That's the best way to describe Samsung's new Tech Take-Out initiative, which lends samples of their latest products to the public at no cost. The imaginative program, based at the company’s Samsung Experience in the Time Warner Center in New York City, allows tourists, technophiles, New Yorkers and budding directors alike to enjoy Samsung gadgets around the streets of New York, creating memories of their experiences in this dramatic city. Visitors can choose from Samsung’s newest SportsCam camcorder, a digital camera, or the DuoCam combination Mini DV camcorder/digital camera to borrow for up to three hours at no charge*. Once the unit is returned, users have
the option to burn the image content they recorded on to a souvenir DVD or to print up to three free photos with Samsung’s new digital photo printer.
To kick-off the program, which opens officially on Sunday, July 10, Samsung will promote the initiative at Central Park SummerStage as well as local advertising around New York City. Upon returning to the Samsung Experience, those visitors who chose to explore Central Park can enter their photos into the “Summer Memories in Central Park” Digital Photo Contest. The contest is also open to any person who takes an interesting photo with a digital camera in Central Park. The winners will be announced in October and the three prize packages each include – Samsung’s new photo printer, a new Samsung digital camera, a Samsung camcorder, and tickets (for 2) to the 2006 Central Park SummerStage Benefit concert.
"Samsung’s goal is to make technology accessible to everyone by providing them with unique and relevant opportunities to do so," said Peter Weedfald, Senior Vice President, North American Strategic Marketing for Samsung Electronics. “Our technology loaner program is the first in the industry and allows our customers to expand the Samsung Experience to include the entire cultural tapestry of New York City."
Visitors to the Samsung Experience will be able to choose from one of three current Samsung cameras and camcorders to borrow*. Initial offerings include the Samsung SC-X105L SportsCamcorder, which comes with an extra lens that you can secure to a helmet or arm for hands-free filming; the SC-D6550 DuoCam which is a Mini-DV Digital Camcorder with a separate, dedicated 5 megapixel CCD Lens for the digital still camera; and new 5 and 7 mega pixel Samsung digital cameras. Digital photos can be printed for free on Samsung’s new SPP-2020 photo printer. There’s no need for a PC because photos can be downloaded from the 7-in-1 memory card interface, edited via a 2 inch color LCD and printed with PictBridge. The printer also features a USB interface for PC printing and optional Bluetooth for wireless printing.
Visitors need a credit card and state or country issued official ID to enjoy the free loan. After a three hour experience, they can bring the unit back and burn the captured content on to a DVD or CD to take home, or make three free 4” x 6” prints, compliments of the Samsung Experience.
The Samsung Experience is located on the third floor in the Shops at Columbus Circle in the Time Warner Center at 59th Street in New York City.
