SAMSUNG Decrees 2006 “Year Of The DVD Recorder” With 10 New Models That Enrich The Home Entertainment Experience

Las Vegas, NV - Samsung Electronics, an award-winning innovator in the DVD arena, reinforces its commitment to DVD recording devices with the introduction of no less than ten affordable, feature-rich models for 2006: the DVD-R130, DVD-R135, DVD-R140, DVD-R145, DVD-VR330, DVD-VR335, DVD-VR345, DVD-HR731, DVD-TR530, and DVD-TR545. Samsung's robust DVD Recorder family includes 2nd generation Twin Tray DVD Recorder/High Speed duplicators, DVD/VCR combo recorders with upconversion capabilities, single-deck DVD recorders, and HDD-DVD recorder. The new models feature a black design that suitably matches Samsung's stylish HDTVs as well a slim body that makes for easy stacking. Samsung's entire DVD Recorder lineup will be on display during CES 2006 at the Samsung booth, #11033 in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center from January 5th - 8th.

"In 2005, Samsung introduced the first ever Twin Tray DVD Recorder, the DVD-TR520, this year we've not only improved on that model with the DVD-TR530, but added an HD Upconversion Twin Tray DVD Recorder as well," says Maria Colon, DVD Marketing Manager, Samsung Electronics America. "In each DVD recorder sub-category, we've added industry-leading features such as Dual Layer Recording increasing the disc storage capabilities and Quick Startup Recording which improves the speed when beginning to record to one second. Additionally, every one of Samsung's 2006 DVD Recorders features High-Speed Audio, which allows consumers to playback and listen to video in 1.5X high speed and Auto Chapter Creator."

HDD-DVD Recorder
The latest Samsung DVR to hit the market, the DVD-HR731 boasts both DVD-RW/-R Recording and a 160GB hard disk drive which allows consumers to store multiple programs and easily record stored programs to DVD. Consumers will never miss their favorite show with EPG TV Guide Plus, an easy to use, electronic version of TV Guide that gives consumers a single interface for management of all TV viewing, scheduling and recording. The interface allows simple navigation through the myriad of available TV channels, independent of source, whether it's FTA broadcast, Digital Terrestrial, Satellite, or Cable. A 55mm slim unit, the DVD-HR731 has the added convenience of front DV Input. Music and photo lovers will have a ball mixing JPEG and MP3 files stored on the built-in HDD to create a customized synchronized Music Slide Show.

The DVD-HR731 is slated for June 2006 for $499 MAP.

DVD/VHS Combo Recorders

Samsung's DVD-VR335 is an HD Upconversion DVD/VHS combo recorder that lets consumers archive their accumulated mounds of VHS tapes by recording them onto DVDs. Consumers can convert cherished VHS tapes to DVDs at the touch of a button and record directly from TV to either format. By way of HDMI output, the player enables HD upconversion up to 1080i from both DVD and VHS via one line out.

Even before upconversion, the picture from these Samsung players is exceptional because of a new feature called EVQ (Enhanced Video Quality). EVQ reduces pixel noise produced during digital signal processing, mitigates the cross color phenomenon occasionally produced by separation of Y & C signal and enhances sharpness. The DVD-VR330 provides the same super multi-format playback and recording with a smooth 480P progressive scan image, minus the HD upconversion. Both DVD Recorders have an automatic chapter creator and front DV-inputs for true digital transfer from a digital camcorder. The DVD-VR345 sees the above features and raises them a few: Super Multi Format Play & Record removes confusion by supporting any format DVD disc. Dual Layer Recording Support doubles the potential record time on each DVD to 8.6 GB, or 14.4hrs in EP, when using dual layer DVDs to record. This advanced recorder comes with DivX codec preinstalled, letting users convert bulky videos into smaller DivX files without losing any noticeable quality. The 345 also has STB (set top box) control and Time Slip via RAM.

The DVD-VR330 is available in March 2006 for $249 MAP. The DVD-VR335 is available in April 2006 for $299 MAP. The DVD-VR345 is available in May 2006 for $349 MAP.

Twin Tray DVD Recorders

Last year, Samsung introduced the world's first consumer based Twin Tray DVD recorder. In 2006 Samsung adds two new models that build upon last year's runaway success with additional features such as DivX, EVQ, Time Slip (RAM) and a slim stylish design. The DVD-TR530 allows users to share memories by copying home video content directly from disc to disc at the push of one button. With both Super Multi Format and +/-R Dual Layer Recording, DVD-TR530 lets consumers copy the most content onto the widest variety of discs. It is also super fast, making copies at up to 8X speed, with the digital-to-digital interface providing superb, high-picture quality every time. CD-R to DVD Disc Copy, a new feature, allows content on a CD to be copied to DVD, such as MP3s, JPEGs, data, etc.

The flagship DVD-TR545 includes all the above and will please HDTV owners with its HDMI Output (720p/1080i). A USB 2.0 interface allows users to copy content (JPEG, MP3, MPEG, etc) direct to DVD from a digital camera, camcorder, card reader, mp3 player, external HDD, or PMP. STB control is also incorporated, making it easy to copy favorite programs without missing them.

The DVD-TR530 is available in April 2006 for $349 MAP. The DVD-TR545 is set for August 2006 at $449 MAP

Single-Deck DVD Recorders

Samsung adds four new super slim (45mm) single tray recorders to its lineup. The DVD-R130 is the perfect DVD recorder for consumers' everyday recording needs. It records in DVD-RAM, -RW, and -R formats with an Auto Chapter Creator function for added convenience, as well as the Quick Start-up recording feature. The DVD-R130 also sports a front DV-input. The DVD-R135 Hi-Def Conversion DVD Recorder incorporates CM Advance and is perfect for HDTV owners with its 1080i HD up-conversion abilities. With both Super Multi Format and +/-R Dual Layer Recording the DVD-R140 Super Multi DVD Recorder is a powerhouse of advanced recording functionality. The unit also features CM Advance, STB Control, DivX and Time Slip (RAM). The flagship DVD-R145 Super Multi DVD Recorder incorporates all of the above, including HD upconversion capabilities and the ability to play/record on any type of DVD currently available.

The DVD-R130 and DVD-R135 are available in March 2006 for $149 MAP and $179 MAP respectively. The DVD-R140 and DVD-R145 are available in April 2006 for $199 map and $229 MAP respectively.
