Compact Flash Card Coming in April

In April 1999, Samsung Electro-Mechanics (SEM) will start mass production of compact flash card, a new product whose development process was completed last December. Compact flash is a small card of the same size as a postage stamp and contains memory devices to store data for various compact multimedia equipment using HDD, which has been increasing in demand.
A new data storage medium using pure semiconductor chips, compact flash cards consume much less electric power than HDD, are shock-resistance and have a larger data storage capacity.

They work well in high temperatures and are light weight and small in size.
Flash cards have applications in a large array of consumer electronics including portable information and communication products (HPC, PDA, mobile phones, etc.), digital cameras (DSC), voice recorders and audio players, set-top boxes, network devices, and many other items.

SEM plans to supply initially four different models of compact flash card with capacities of 2MB, 4MB, 8MB and 16MB. Its interchangeability and compatibility with Kodak, Epson, NEC, Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, Kyocera, Fujifilm, Sharp and HP digital cameras and PDAs are expected to lead to wide, sustained and increasing demand.

In the future, SEM plans to produce such new memory devices as the ATA card, smart media adapter and CF adapter.
