SAMSUNG Mall in Partnership with Japan's Largest Bookstore

Samsung Internet Shopping Mall has formed a strategic alliance with Kinokuniya, Japan's biggest bookstore, to sell Japanese books over the net.

In a ceremony held at Hotel Shilla on July 20th, V.P. Jae Hong Min of Samsung Corporation and senior director Takai of Kinokuniya signed a cooperative agreement to begin this service.

Following the success of strategic partnership with Amazon(www.amazon.com) last March which is generating over US$8,000 of book sales daily, there was a great need to begin the Japanese book service.

Samsung Mall(www.samsungmall.co.kr) will use the translator software from Unisoft to translate Japanese to Korean, making it possible to search Japanese books and sites and order in Korean.

Although the Kinokuniya site can be logged in by paying 1,500 yen, Samsung Mall offers free ID and a savings of 300~500 yen for a 7-10 day delivery. In addition to books, Samsung Mall also offers information about Japan such as news, business, sports, travel and language tips.

Kinokuniya is the biggest bookstore in Japan and also the largest shopping mall with a D/B of 1.4 million Japanese books. It has been recently ranked number 4 on the web site and number 1 in e-commerce category on the 1998 Yahoo Japan Guide.
