SAMSUNG Expands Sydney Games Sponsorship into Whitegoods Category

Samsung Electronics Australia Pty Ltd today announced an exciting extension of its sponsorship for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games by securing the Official Whitegoods Partner category with the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games.

Samsung Electronics is an International Olympic Committee Worldwide sponsor and it previously demonstrated its commitment to the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games by securing the rights as the Official Wireless Communications Equipment Partner for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Under the new Whitegoods category which includes refrigerators, microwave ovens, washing machines and domestic air conditioners, Samsung Electronics will provide refrigerators, microwave ovens and washing machines for the Games.

Mr CW Kim, Samsung Electronics Executive Vice-President - Whitegoods, said the company's additional investment with SOCOG reflected its belief that the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games will be highly successful.

Mr Kim added that its burgeoning Whitegoods category is important to Samsung Electronics.

"We are delighted to expand our Olympic Games sponsorship into the Whitegoods category," said Mr Kim.

"Samsung's Whitegoods market share, particularly in Australia, is growing at a very pleasing rate and we believe our expanded association with the Sydney Olympic Games will provide the company and our Australian division with additional opportunities to increase market share," he added.

In announcing its Official Whitegoods Partner category, Samsung also revealed that double Australian Olympian, swimmer Samantha Riley, will be featured as part of its advertising and point of sale campaigns around the country.

SOCOG Chief Executive, Mr Sandy Hollway, said Samsung's additional investment demonstrated its faith in the success of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

"As an IOC Worldwide sponsor and a significant Partner in two SOCOG categories, Samsung's commitment is positive proof that it believes in the Olympic movement and in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games," said Mr Hollway.

In its capacity as the official Wireless Communications Equipment Partner to the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, Samsung is also providing fast and reliable wireless communications equipment and support for use by athletes, officials, organisers and media.

This will include about 25,000 units of wireless communications equipment including mobile phones along with service experts for technical support.

Samsung is also establishing a Samsung Centre at Sydney Olympic Park called Olympic Rendezvous@Samsung where athletes and their families will be united during the Games.

The Olympic Rendezvous@Samsung will be the only location at the Homebush Bay complex where competitors can meet in private with the people who have supported them from the outset of their sporting careers, namely parents, siblings and extended family.
