SAMSUNG Demonstrates Mobile Internet Service at Sydney 2000 Olympic Games

SYDNEY, Australia - September 14, 2000 - Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., Worldwide Olympic Partner representing the Wireless Communications Equipment category at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, will display its comprehensive solution for mobile Internet from September 15 to October 1, 2000, at its exhibition and entertainment pavilion, Olympic Rendezvous @ Samsung.

Located in Sydney Olympic Park, Olympic Rendezvous @ Samsung will demonstrate:
 #martphone#(model number SCH-i201), the company# next-generation Internet mobile handset
 Packaged mobile Internet service solution that offers a feature-rich Internet service to mobile operators around the world.

Already launched in Israel, Brazil and Korea, Samsung# mobile Internet service offers:
#E-mail synchronised with Outlook Express
#Personal Information Management (PIM) system that is PC-synchronised. This allows users to access e-mail accounts and diary schedules located on their desktop computers
#Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), which lets business users access corporate Intranets securely via the Internet
#Real-time information such as news and stock reports
#Secure commercial services including stock trading, ticket reservation and shopping.

Visitors to Olympic Rendezvous @ Samsung will be able to view over two hundred Internet sites on Samsung# Smartphone. The services available at the Pavilion include Sydney-city guide provided by the Sydney Morning Herald, CNN and the latest Olympic Games update which are based on Samsung# solution on mobile Internet services.

#Secure Commercial Services #These include stock trading, banking, reservation and shopping #all offered in a fully secure environment certified by both the Korean Finance Ministry and NSTL, the world's leading independent information technology testing organisation.

#Personal Data Management #Smartphone users can be notified automatically by SMS (Short Message Service) about information such as diary schedules, news, weather and the best time for buying or selling stock. In addition to information delivery, users can be linked directly to the relevant web page by clicking the SMS message on their Smartphone.

#Enterprise Resource Planning #Samsung# mobile Internet solution allows people on the move to access their corporate Intranet securely. This facility allows sales people to check inventory or order flow information located on their corporate Intranets using mobile phones.

#Web-based Mail #Users can be alerted to a new e-mail by an SMS message. In addition, full e-mail text and attachments can be displayed on the mobile phone by clicking on the SMS message.

#Customisable Functions #Users can customise mobile phone functions to include personal character images and ring tones by downloading images and music from the Internet directly onto their phones. Games are also attractive features of Samsung# solution.
Samsung to Become A Mobile Internet Pioneer
To commercialise its service globally, Samsung is set to spin-off its mobile Internet solution business, and a new company called MPEON is scheduled to start its operation in October 2000 to provide turnkey mobile service applications to a network of mobile operators worldwide.
