SAMSUNG Brings a World of Entertainment to Sydney Olympic Park to Celebrate International Culture

SYDNEY, Australia - September 6, 2000 #Sydney Olympic Park at Homebush is poised to be Australia# hub of activity for the 17 days of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and Samsung #the Worldwide Olympic Partner of the Games representing the Wireless Communications Equipment Category #is set to make a cultural celebration of it by hosting a World of Entertainment.

The cultural entertainment program will be held at the Olympic Rendezvous @ Samsung [OR@S] - Samsung# 4,000 square metre free entertainment complex - and will celebrate the culture of countries from Portugal to France, Venezuela to Germany.

The Olympic Rendezvous @ Samsung (OR@S) is a 10-minute walk from Stadium Australia on the corner of Sarah Durack Avenue and Olympic Boulevard in Sydney Olympic Park and is a central gathering place and landmark for spectators and athletes during the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

#amsung is proud to be hosting this multicultural festival celebrating the diversity of the nations of the world. Visitors will be entertained by dance performances, bands and traditional entertainment,#said Mr Il-Hyung Chang, Vice President and Head of Olympic Projects for Samsung Electronics.

Each day of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games will see a different entertainment showcase. Singers, dancers, musicians, flamboyant costumes - countries will share their individual cultures with visitors. Each country# act will be performed twice per day on the Rendezvous Plaza Stage at the OR@S allowing the public the opportunity to view this unique display.

Opened on 15 September, 2000 and operating for the duration of the Games, the Olympic Rendezvous @ Samsung will attract some 600,000 visitors throughout the Games.
It has four key areas:

1. The Athletes Centre - a home-away-from-home for visiting athletes, will be a secure, private environment where they can relax with friends and family away from the rigours of competition. Provisions will include refreshments, internet access, information services, live broadcast of the Games and free Share The Moment mobile phone calls to anywhere in the world. Access to the Athletes Centre by competing athletes and their guests will be handled via a pre-registration process to ensure high security.

2. The Rendezvous Plaza is an open area where the public will be able to gather for daily entertainment, Olympic Games memorabilia auctions and to support their National Olympic Teams. A main stage with a large screen will run live broadcasts and will be the focal point for international entertainment, daily athlete appearances and handprinting ceremonies.

3. The Spectator Centre will house Samsung# contribution to the world of digital wireless communications technology. Visitors will have the chance to experience the future using new technology developed by Samsung Electronics.

4. The Digital Interlude is in the atrium area dividing the Athletes Centre and Spectator Centre. Samsung has developed a unique live and multi-media futuristic performance aided by digital technology, scheduled to run five times a day during Games time.

In addition to the World of Entertainment, the Olympic Rendezvous @ Samsung (OR@S) features:

- Samsung Share The Moment calls #to Australians, international spectators and all participants of the Games, providing opportunities to share the excitement and memorable moments of the Games with family and friends through Samsung mobile phones, free of charge for up to three minutes at a time.

- The public will have a chance to see their favourite medallists at the Samsung handprinting ceremonies. On stage at the Rendezvous Plaza, each medallist will be invited to make his or her handprint, which will become a permanent Olympic legacy for Sydney.
