SAMSUNG SDS Forged a Strategic Alliance with Microsoft

Samsung SDS is poised to take the initiative in the business software market in conjunction with Microsoft Samsung SDS (CEO: Kim Hong-Ki) said on October 19 that it formed a strategic alliance with Microsoft (CEO: Steve Ballmer), the U.S-based leading global software provider, under which the two companies would share their leading software solutions, employ joint marketing activities and cooperate in technology development. Under the partnership, the two companies will share their software solutions: EasyBase, report management software developed by Samsung SDS and SQL2000, database management software developed by Microsoft. Samsung SDS will adopt MS SQL2000 for Single2000, its internal information system, while MS will bundle EasyBase program of Samsung SDS into SQL2000 package, providing EasyBase to the buyers of SQL2000. -The two companies will closely cooperate in developing sales networks for sales promotion. Samsung SDS' EasyBase is an easy-to-use report management software that meets the needs of the domestic market. Easybase was adopted as a reporting tool by major government institutions, including the Ministry of Information and Communication, and the Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs, and leading global and domestic companies. Samsung SDS is set to advance into overseas markets, including the U.S., Japan, and Southeast Asia, for REQUBE, the new name of EasyBase. Microsoft's SQL2000 provides strong web features and compatibility, and has comprehensive XML (extensible Markup Language) support, overcoming the limits of the existing database software. "After considerable deliberation, we decided to adopt Microsoft's solutions to meet the growing needs in the rapidly changing Internet environment and take the initiative in the next-generation Internet application market," said Kim Hong-Ki, CEO of Samsung SDS. "The partnership is expected to enable us to introduce more powerful software and enhance our competitiveness by taking advantage of the high brand image of Microsoft." "We decided to embed our SQL2000 on Single2000, the internal information system of Samsung SDS, which we believe is a high quality solution," said Go Hyun-jin, CEO of MS Korea. "We intend to maintain the partnership with Samsung SDS to take a leading position in the local software market." Meanwhile, the strategic alliance ceremony, which was held at the Shilla Hotel, was attended by Samsung SDS CEO Kim Hong-Ki, Pieter Knook, vice president of Asian operations of Microsoft, Go, Hyun-jin, president of MS Korea and other articipants from the two companies.
