SAMSUNG Transfers all TFT-LCD Related Businesses to SAMSUNG Electronics

Samsung Electronics has acquired Samsung Display Interface's (SDI) color filter business, including all assets, debt and employees (496 in total). This business is valued at 360 billion won and the color filter is considered a core component of TFT-LCD products. Samsung expects to increase the synergy effect by unifying all TFT-LCD related businesses under Samsung Electronics. SDI will focus its resources on developing second-generation battery and PDP technologies. SDI began the color filter business in 1995. The company currently operates 4 lines that have a production capacity of 170,000 filters per month. These lines are located inside Samsung Electronics' Chonan production complex and 99% of the output was supplied to Samsung Electronics.
