SAMSUNG SDS to Launch Trade Logistics Service Based on ASP and Mobile Internet

A new solution, which helps quickly and smoothly process complicated procedures of trade transportation, has emerged. The solution, which is provided via mobile Internet-based ASP (application service provider) service, will allow logistics service providers to take advantage of an optimized logistical management system at low cost, sharing information on transportation, location and various facilities through online communities among service providers without the need to establish network systems on their own. Samsung SDS (CEO: Kim Hong-Ki) announced that it would launch "Mlogis", which provides ASP service using mobile Internet, wireless communication network, and logistics infrastructure, for freight, cargo, and delivery service providers from the first of November. "Mlogis", a mobile Internet-based logistics ASP service, is the first to serve trade transportation service providers and connect all the domestic service operators online as existing logistics transportation service solutions are mostly designed for delivery or ordinary freight service providers. The new service provides a one-stop solution, which helps process all trade transportation procedures by connecting all the service providers involved in transportation service including shippers, cargo service providers, delivery service providers, airlines, terminals, and IDCs. "Mlogis" enables real time management and control of all transportation service processes from reception, transportation, location tracking, and vehicle monitoring by connecting logistics service providers via Internet, logistical network systems and mobile communication systems with Mlogis' servers. Key services available include: - Vehicle Allocation Service: supports the management of registered vehicles and online vehicle allocation through mobile communication system - Vehicle Control Service: tracks locations of transportation vehicles and manages vehicle operating records in real time based on the geographical information system - Transportation Management System: provides web-based accounting and statistical services from receiving orders and adjusting accounts to fueling oil and maintenance services - Cargo Service Support System: helps cargo service providers swiftly carry out their services by supporting the management of ship arrivals and container freight - Shipper Support System: provides the management service of freight delivery, customs clearance procedures and freight tracking In addition, online communities provide various additional services, arranging transportation/distribution services, providing information on available vehicles, facilities, emergency measures, traffic information, and vehicle maintenance. In particular, Mlogis provides customized services depending on customer needs by modulating work processes and expanding the service to combine with SCM (Supply Chain Management) and CRM (Customer Relationship Management) solutions. "The trade transportation volume accounted for 78 percent of the total transportation volume and companies spent 7.4 billion won annually for transportation services as of 1998," said an official of Samsung SDS. "Transportation service providers can benefit from Mlogis mobile ASP logistics service, saving a significant amount of cost as they do not have to build a logistics infrastructure of their own." "We plan to expand the service reach to serve ordinary freight service and delivery service providers and make one stop logistics information service available at the Mlogis.com Web site," he added. An official of Dongbang Inc., which is beta testing the Mlogis service, said, "The service has been a great help in providing transportation services by significantly reducing operating costs including communication and human resource costs and eliminating customer complaints by using information on vehicle allocation and location." Samsung SDS is providing Mlogis pilot service to Dongbang Inc. and Korea Express after signing contracts with the companies. It is also working on the development of new services and solutions jointly with Dongbang Inc. and SS Comtech Co. under strategic alliances.
