Built Vessels Selected as 'Vessels of the Year'

The "SaiBos FDS", built by SHI and the first of its kind built in Korea, was selected as "the vessel of the year" by world-famous maritime transportation magazines including Naval Architect and Maritime Reporter. FDS stands for a Field Development Ship. SHI won the order for the vessel from SaiBos, a joint venture of an Italian firm Saipem and a French firm Bouygues at the price of $80 million. The vessel, a multi-purpose, high value-added FDS equipped with a 600-ton offshore crane, can be used for installation of pipes in deep-sea for exploration of oil fields. It can also be engaged in the installation work of miniature oil-field plants. Also included in the list of "the vessels of the year" by magazines, such as Marine Log and Naval Architect were SHI-built 310,000-ton mammoth-class VLCC and "British Progress" (owner: BP Shipping Ltd., UK). Others built by SHI including a 5,500-TEU container vessel (owner:Orient Overseas Container Lines Ltd., Hongkong), a drill ship (owner:Navis AS Norway), a 97,000-ton shuttle tanker (owner:JJ Ugland AS Norway) were also selected as "the vessels of the year" by the magazines such as Marine Log, Naval Architect and Maritime Reporter.
