SAMSUNG Mobile Phone Saves Driver's Life

SEOUL, Korea - January 11, 2001 - A French cellular phone user plunges into a torrent of water in his car. He then uses his mobile phone which has been immersed in water and mud to request emergency assistance and the rescue team arrives in time to pull him out. This story has gotten around France and is turning a lot of heads.

Henri Garella, the man whose life was saved, sent a letter of gratitude to Samsung Electronics France S.A.(SEF), the local company subsidiary. According to the letter, Mr. Garella was returning home from work in a provincial French city last December 27. He was involved in an automobile accident and his car fell off the side of a road and into a ravine.

The ravine was filled with torrent of muddy water from recent heavy rains. The car overturned and the roof caved in so that the driver could not get out. He soon found himself up to his neck in the rushing water.

As a last resort, Mr. Garella fished his Samsung mobile phone(model: SGH-600) out of the water and mud and made an emergency call to the rescue unit. The rescue team arrived 30 minutes later and pulled him out to safety.

Of his experience, Mr. Garella said, "The Samsung mobile phone saved my life. In the future I will always keep it with me no matter what I do and where I go."

The quality and reliability of the Samsung mobile phone was proven once again under these extreme circumstances. This story reconfirms the reputation of Samsung mobile phones which are popular with demanding European consumers.

Samsung mobile phones are recognized as the top brand in France; the SGH-2400 was selected as the "Consumers' Preferred Mobile Phone in 2000". Samsung expects to export US$200 million worth of its mobiles to the European market in 2001.
