SAMSUNG MultiCampus 'eduPort' Released in China

Penetrate the enormous Chinese e-Learning (remote education) market
Samsung MultiCampus (Dir. Byung Soo Ryu www.multicampus.co.kr) will enter China's remote education market. Representatives from e-Campus (www.e-Campus.co.kr), MultiCampus's remote education site, have built a partnership with CS&S (Pres. Chen Yhong, www.css.com.cn), China's leading IT company. e-Campus officials said on April 2 that it would release its remote education solution, entitled eduPort, to the Chinese market. At the same time, they will work in cooperation with CS&S to conduct joint development and marketing of e-Campus's remote educational content.

After opening its remote education business in 1996, e-Campus has now become an enormous remote education site with 200,000 members; 40,000 students; and over 200 expert courses. It has numerous curricula in fields such as IT, and business administration. CS&S, meanwhile, has established itself as one of China's top three IT companies by focusing on systems integration, e-Business, and IT education. The partnership between Samsung MultiCampus and CS&S also marks an important alliance between private IT companies in South Korea and China.

'eduPort' was first released domestically in January with the Chinese version (eduPort-China) recently released as well. In order to enable cyber education over the Internet, 'eduPort' is created, using a state-of-the-art remote operation system that utilizes various educational tools like video, text, graphics, and interactive functions. Because 'eduPort' was developed in a Java environment, it has great system expandability and compatibility.

-MultiCampus and CS&S will market 'eduPortChina' and will focus its initial campaign on Chinese remote education companies, schools, institutes, conglomerates, and public offices.
-Also, e-Campus will not only enter the 'eduPort'China' solution industry, but also businesses that are rapidly growing in China such as OA (office automation), database, Internet, e-Business, and operation system applications. Recognized for its high quality in the cyber education market, e-Campus has now shaped a new course in creating IT-related curricula in Chinese. The two partners are also planning on joint promotion of the education service and contents businesses aimed at the Chinese market.

According to Chinese Internet Information Center (CNNIC), the population of Internet users has doubled from 8.9 million at the end of 1999 to 20 million. In addition, the number of Internet sites has also increased by 15,000 in one year to 30,000. CNNIC said that Internet users are rapidly increasing in the Beijing and Shanghai areas and predict that the Internet industry will double every year for the next few years.

Dir. Byung Soo Ryu of Samsung MultiCampus and Pres. Chen Yhong of CS&S both attended an event held at the CS&S headquarters in Beijing on March 30. More than 10 local journalists provided coverage of the event, indicating that the Chinese press is extremely interested in the IT market.
