Ridgefield Park, NJ – July 12, 2012 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, has won seven 2012 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA), the most awards among participating corporations in one of the world’s most prestigious design contests.

Samsung has been an industry leader in technology and product innovations with breakthrough advances in flat panel TVs and mobile communication devices for years. Samsung ranks second on the list of top U.S. patents holders with 4,894 patents in 2011 alone. Not only has Samsung been delivering significant technical advances at an unsurpassable pace, it has been doing so in a visually stunning way.

The company has been focused on user experience and design excellence with six design centers around the world to complement its technologically superior products. This investment has resulted in more than 600 design accolades since 2006 from such notable organizations as the iF International Forum Design and the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA).

Samsung’s latest design honors are the four golds, two silvers, one bronze, and 13 additional products chosen as finalists by the IDSA.

Silver Award Winners

Series 9 Notebook - a super-slim notebook at 0.58” thin and lightweight at 3.63 lbs. With extremely fast startup speeds and nearly instant resume from sleep, the Series 9 lets you get even more done and leaves every other PC in the airport lounge or conference room behind.

Digital Camera (NX200) – a mirrorless compact digital camera with an interchangeable lens. Housed in real metal which enhances its sophisticated, professional look, the top cover is finished with aluminum alloy that achieves a solid, durable look unobtainable through other methods. With attention to such details as the read mode dial and the grip, the design is focused on professional performance.

Bronze Award Winner

Series 9 Monitor (SB970) - designed to accentuate the high image quality guaranteed by the plane-to-line-switching panel and the wide viewing angle. In addition, each Series 9 monitor is individually hand-calibrated by Samsung engineers through an hour-long process to ensure every unit leaving the factory is ready for the ultimate user experience. On the front, emphasis was placed on the clean, neat image of glass and metal and the purity of the materials in order to highlight the screen’s functions. All unnecessary elements were removed from the rear to achieve the most basic form while retaining all the functions that a monitor is expected to provide.
