Blowing Away Alkali

Project Information

Sunburst Jr. High’s project will focus on using STEM to learn and apply the scientific process, technology, engineering, and mathematical skills to assist in researching, identifying and then applying solutions for remediating the alkali crisis that has tragically impacted their community. Students will look to remediate the very troubling and dangerous issue of blowing alkali across the local interstate highway. The students would like to identify and recommend solutions as well as provide education that will lead to a safer community for those living in the area and those traveling through the area.

School Information

Sunburst Elementary/Middle School is located in the small, rural community of Sunburst, Montana located only 8 miles from the Canadian border. Our school has 108 students in Kindergarten-8th grade and prides itself on providing small town values while encouraging all students to meet high expectations.
